You may not have work or class on Memorial Day, but it’s definitely an on-the-go kinda day. Between the family BBQ and the night out with friends (and, of course, all that patriotism), it is easy to forget about your makeup. And makeup is important if you don’t want to look like a hot sweaty mess. Below are some tips and portable products to help you make an easy makeup transition from grill to dance floor.
Clean: To wipe away the sweat and sunscreen of the day, use some pocket oil-absorbing wipes. Try these ones from Clinique. They will help wipe off the sunscreen and oils on your face so you have a fresh pallet to transition into night. If you are able to get to a sink, you can use Ponds travel-sized makeup wipes to remove grease and makeup more thoroughly. You also may want to throw on some extra deodorant (just sayin’….). This mini Dove deodorant will fit easily in any bag and is less than $2!
Face: You’ll definitely want to reapply your bronzer and up your blush, so try this NARS kit that has both in a tiny compact and comes in three color choices including NARS’ top selling blush, “Orgasm.”
Eyes: The most convenient thing on a day like Memorial Day is to have pallets that have daytime and nighttime colors. Try this pallet from Urban Decay. It has pretty light gold colors for a daytime sparkle, then, when you switch to nighttime mode, you can apply the primer to help your color stick, then layer on the deeper brown or blue shade. Finish off with a thick brown liner pencil to create a more dramatic night party look and top it all off with a (adorable) mini mascara. This duo by Fresh includes a bold mascara and a lighter look. You can use the lighter one for day and then add the more voluminous one at night. Read More »

Oh St. Patty’s day. The only day it’s okay to lie and say that you are a wee bit Irish and take a shot toasting the green isle. It’s also okay (and damn well expected) to add a little green to your routine.
Yes, including your makeup.
Don’t worry – you won’t look like Kermit… or Elphaba from Wicked. There is a perfectly acceptable way to put green on your face. And that involves subtlety. Shy away from neon greens or green lipsticks; instead, layer on the green shadows, liner and mascara for a festive yet totally classy look.
Who knows? You may even continue to rock those greens all year long. Plus, no one will be able to resist a pair of sparkling green eyes.
So give green a chance with these great green products! Read More »

You’ve heard the truth about “organic” makeup, so what’s a girl to do when she wants to be environmentally cautious and fabulous all at the same time? The world of organic makeup seems shady at best with no real standards of any kind, but that is not the same story when it comes to Green makeup. There are a couple companies that really take environmental issues to heart and actually sell products that can help mother earth.
Cargo – Plant Love
Cargo has always had great makeup products, cool eye shadows and great blushes. But they recently launched a whole line of eco- friendly products. Everything from lipsticks, powders, foundations, liners, shadows, etc., all in super-biodegradable packaging. They even created the first ever compostable lipsticks! Made completely from corn, these lipstick tubes break down in a compost pile just like apple cores and banana peels.
The whole Plant Love line is certified by ECOCERT, which is kind of like a Better Business Bureau for eco-friendliness. They monitor not just the packaging, but the whole production process to make sure that the products are made, shipped and disposed of in way that is not too harsh on the environment. The coolest thing is the boxes the products come in actually have wildflower seeds in them! If you plant them, you can grow a garden. How’s that for green? Read More »

Nobody wants their makeup to wear off early, especially on a Thirsty Thursday like tonight. Unfortunately, that’s what often happens when you pile on the party makeup and the results are, well, messy. Droopy lashes, smeared liner and lip-gloss on your chin are definitely not good accessories for your party look.
Lucky for you, I’m going to share a few tricks to keep your makeup on your face so you can dance to Brit without lookin’ like (old) Brit.
First, make sure your face is completely clean, a good exfoliating scrub like this one from Clinique will get rid of dead skin that could ruin your look. Moisturizing your skin thoroughly with an unscented lotion will help makeup stick to your skin. Perfume also absorbs well when skin is damp and moisturized, so apply your scent now. Powder foundation on your face will also stick great when skin is moisturized so swipe that on now and dab some concealer under your eyes.
To keep your lashes big and beautiful throughout the night start with an eyelash curler. Just like with hair, heat helps maintain your lashes, so heat up your curler with a hair dryer on low for a few seconds. Then curl your lashes starting at the base and pressing down three times working your way up to the tips of your lashes. Once your lashes are curled with heat apply a few coats of mascara that won’t clump. Try Bad Gal Mascara from Benefit. This lash brush is huge and doesn’t leave your lashes sticky or hard. There are thousands of makeup products out there, but the truth is that most of us fall into a rut and wear pretty much the same thing every day. There are so many fabulous things to try and the holidays are the perfect excuse to try something unique and daring. Parties with friends, family get-togethers, or wild New Year’s all nighters are the perfect time to try something bold and festive!
False Lashes
Oh so fun and glamorous but a little too drag queeny 11 months out of the year, December is the perfect time to have fun with false lashes. Make Up For Ever has dozens of styles to play with. If you want something subtle, try the individual lashes to add a little fullness and fill in sparse areas. If you are feeling extra festive, MUFE has really over-the-top lashes with red or green tips, or even white feathers!

[Every Saturday I am here to bring you the best beauty products, tips and ideas. Last week I helped ya out with great Halloween makeup (that you can wear year-round!). I am sure it all came in handy last night. Today I am bringing you beauty products that will change your life! I know that seems a bit dramatic, but I'm telling you: these products are revolutionary.]
Urban Decay Primer Potion ($16 sephora.com)
This little tube may look like is holds a genie, but it actually delivers with something truly magical. Just dab this colorless cream on your eyelids before you apply shadow. It will stay on for-ev-er. If you hate having your shadow all gunked up in the crease just a few hours after you put it on, this product is your holy grail. You can put on your makeup before you go to work, go out to dinner, then a club, – get in at 1am and your eyeshadow will still look fab. Also try it just underneath your bottom lash line to keep eyeliner in place. Once you try this product, you won’t be able to live without it.
DDF Glycolic Body Lotion ($42 sephora.com)
Okay so it is a little bit pricey for a body lotion. But this is not a cucumber melon type moisturizer to make you smell pretty – it’s a serious solution to a very common skin problem: Chicken Skin! Almost half of all girls have it. That red bumpy weird pimply skin on the back of your arms and legs. If you have ever had it, you know it can be embarrassing and down right gross. Believe it or not, just a quick application of this stuff on trouble areas and you will see results in just THREE DAYS. Your Chicken Skin will turn to alabaster in no time. Once you’ve achieved the desired result, you can use the lotion 3-4 times a week for maintenance. Try it for a week, and your skin will forever be addicted. Read More »

With spring approaching there are a few things on my mind; getting rid of my pasty winter white skin and perhaps ridding myself of wind-chapped lips so I can wear lip gloss again?! Hooray!
Everyone has a routine they go through to transition from winter to spring. Here’s mine.
I’m obsessed with bronzer, literally…I get a little bronzer happy to the point where you can reflect light off my face. For a nice base color (that isn’t reflecting, only refreshing) I suggest Bare Essentials…you’ve all seen the infomercials I’m sure, but seriously, the sh*t works.
My skin always looks ridiculously smooth and makes me feel much more alive. So in order to finish off that Spring look, brush some Cargo bronzer across your cheeks and lightly on the bridge of your nose and you will look, fresh, springy, and much less like you’ve been hibernating all winter. If there are two things in this world that I love, it’s animals and makeup. I know, I know – two very random things, and you wouldn’t think they have anything to do with one another. It’s not like animals wear makeup. Well, except for maybe this one. She’s gawwwgeous!
However, animals and makeup do have a connection, and a very unfortunate and sick one at that, as animals continue to be used to test the makeup millions of us wear. And just as I say I love animals, yet I cannot resist coming home from a night of partying and scarfing down a Big Mac, I feel like such a hypocrite by stocking up on tons of makeup every month, knowing about all the animal testing that goes on behind the scenes.
Mollygood.com features a thought-provoking blog called “Breakup with Makeup” that shows actress Elisha Cuthbert, fresh-faced and makeup-free, to show that beauty is more than possible without a trace of cosmetics, all in the name of animal rights. Read More »
