I have more t-shirts than anyone should really have ever. Not only could I dress myself for about a month just in t-shirts baring my university’s logo, but I have countless free beer promotion shirts (bonus from working in a bar), funny saying shirts (my favorite being the “I have reservations” Native American one), and shirts from every event/concert/outing I have attended forever.
And I wear a lot of them. I used to boycott getting really dressed up during the day (who needs to look cute in a 9 AM class?), and rock my comfy jeans and a tee. On the rare occasion that I actually decide to enter the gym I’ll throw on one from my collection. But a lot of the time they sit in my dresser unused and unloved. And it makes me kinda sad. Cause all clothes should be loved, right?
One day I thought I might wear one out to a bar if I could create something with it. I was trying to go for the “I – didn’t – really – try – to – look – cute – but – somehow – I – just – look – adorable” look. Except I’m seriously not that creative and the only thing I could think to do was cut the neck a little, and maybe do something to the short sleeves. Read More »

New York Fashion Week is here. Parties, skinny models: I’m pretty sure the champagne and nicotine is free flowing in Bryant Park.
But while designers are fending off PETA protests in between showing their new spring lines and partying till dawn, the rest of us are trying to keep our heads above water with school starting and that small thing called life.
And with the hubbub of fashion week upon us, it’s easy to forget that aside from living life, perhaps you should be living it with a bit of green gusto. After all, we are killing the planet and ourselves and everyone is doomed.
Luckily, there is fashion to keep us occupied… and eco fashion to make us feel we are doing something (anything?) right for the environment.
iGo Green, a new “green” section of iVillage, has done the grunt work by singling out some of the up and coming eco fashion designers to watch. Read More »

Following the trends can be quite problematic. Especially when you are trying to find the trends on the cheap before every mass retailer has picked it up. And by that point, you’re so over it because EVERYONE has one. Sound familiar? It’s pretty much the story of my life.
Before I get to the trend (sigh, big bags are out). I’m going to tell you a story. And then I’m going to tell you how to remedy our little situation.
In October of 2005, I saw a Calvin Klein ad where the model was wearing FLAT BOOTS. And not just flat boots, but black patent leather pointy toe snakeskin flat boots. And at that point, not only did I want a pair of boots sans their heel, I wanted them right THEN before they became über popular.
Now you can find a pair anywhere. Forever 21, H&M, Payless: they all jumped on the flat boot bandwagon, but a year and a half after I wanted a pair. That year, I spent my fall break in New York and decided that I would find a decently priced (i.e. around 200 dollars) pair of boots. I knew I couldn’t find them for less, if I could even find them at all.
I dragged my then boyfriend to every shoe store in Manhattan looking for a pair of flat boots. Poor guy. That was a rough shopping day.
I knew what I wanted but could not find them for less than 500 bucks. And my college budget sure wasn’t able to afford a pair of shoes THAT expensive.
Eventually, at the end of the day, I found them. My beautiful flat boots were just sitting there on the shelf in a tiny unassuming shoe store on 14th street. And when I went back to school, everyone made fun of my shoes and I was like whatever, bitches! Just you wait!
So now for the new fall trend that can’t be found: small shoulder bags or saddle bags. Whatever you want to call them. Big bags are out for those in the know. As much as I love my big bag, I am a bit tired of lugging so much crap around and having so much accumulate within its cavernous interior. So I am going to embrace this new trend before it becomes too trendy. Problem is, every little bag comes with a big price. Read More »

I toured NYC seeking some waist clinching hotness… four Urban Outfitters and three hours later, the stone wash faded dark denim shorts I heard about were sold out and not expected to return.
Balderdash! And they look so damn cute!
If you’re thinking ‘grandma pant’, forget about it. No, my friends, high-waist everything: shorts, jeans, skirts and jumpers are making a slam-bam come back.
This style isn’t just flattering to one shape, either.
Curvy, plus sized, and teeny tiny babes can work ‘em. Embrace the shape! The cut creates an amazing hour-glass figure, even if you’re boy-shaped, like myself.
Farrah knew what was up, or at least, her stylist did. We’ve all seen the fashion come and go…and then come back again, but today how much better could we have it? The mix of seventies and eighties offers an ‘anything goes’ fashion perspective.
Baby doll tops, bell-shaped dresses, minis that show the leg but not the belly pooch, and now… keep your eye out for the high-waisted numbers. Snag yourself a vintage pair and really work it. Read More »

Pocket Tube Dress, $297; Paillette Baby Doll Dress, $440; Poof Paillettes Dress, $297
I’ve always been a total sucker for sequins. I heart them. I also heart Alice+Olivia. For those of you unfamiliar with this completely amazing designer, Stacey Bendet launched the line in 2002 on a personal quest to create the perfect pair of flattering and form-fitting pants. Her signature style was met with instant success, and “Stacey Pants” (what a name!) quickly became a must-have denim alternative for the sophisticated ladies who lunch but also have yen for smooth retro styling. According to the scene on the runway, spectacles are going to be fall’s newest accessory. Does anybody else find it a little depressing that autumn trends have already been forecasted and it’s not even summer yet? It’s like department stores starting to play Christmas music before Halloween—downright depressing. Such is life. At least it gives us a little time to prepare, even though by the time we actually get there Spring lines will have already debuted. Ah fashion, what would we do without your nonsense?
But back to the glasses.
As you can see from the shots from Chris Benz and Miu Miu respectively, the look was very sexy librarian. “Glasses are a very covered-up way of saying something provocative,” said stylist Kate Young. You have to admit, there is something hot about subtle sexiness. Why do you think the librarian has been a staple male fantasy since the beginning of time, or maybe just Playboy? There’s just something hot about potential, the moment when the “nerd” shakes out her hair, ditches her glasses for contacts, and nabs the student body president. Wait, was that the plot to “She’s All That”…? Read More »

Eyelet is always a staple for spring; cute, feminine eyelet dresses filled the runways in New York, Milan and Paris.According to Style.com, “From Carolina Herrera’s more formal take to BCBG’s more casual look, this is one trend anyone you can take from runway to reality.”
I’ve found a few affordable options that will give you the trend with out the high price tag. Read More »

It’s getting to be about that time of the term again…all nighter season. Spending the night in the library is bad enough without looking as crappy as you feel. It’s high time to retire your ratty old sweats for some clothes that are just as comfortable, but completely adorable. Maybe you’ll catch the eye of the hot guy pouring over his Econ book across from you in the library.

This hoodie feels like buttah and comes in a bunch of different colors. Unisex Flex Hoodie: American Apparel $40. Read More »

Dresses are by far my favorite form of spring-wear — they’re easy to throw on before class, easy to pull up under rated-R circumstance and best of all, they show off my best asset, the legs.
So obviously when I saw minidresses populating the catwalks I almost peed myself; lovely little frocks in all shapes, patterns and colors … ah, fantastic. Now I can wear really short numbers without feeling like a slut. After all, us lucky 20-somethings are the ones meant to sport the trend. I mean check out the latest pics of Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan — they’re all wearing the minis.
Although I’d love to splurge for some designer duds, I’m settling for a dress I’ve found at Forever21. I know it’s not a quality version, but atleast I won’t freak out if I spill a cocktail on it.
Check out a few of my minidress discoveries:

The sun is shining, you’ve started studying outdoors, and it’s that time of year again. No, not to go swimsuit shopping, you have until May to start that fiasco, but to pick up a new pair of shades. Don’t take this task lightly, sunglasses can change your entire look. You can go from sorority girl to hipster with just a flick of the wrist. But don’t you fret, here are a few different options, cheap enough so you can pick up a couple of different pairs.
I’ll start with my own personal favorite, the shades I picked up at Urban Outfitters yesterday. Gratuitously oversized, 80s chic, they tell the world that I’m too damn cool to worry about actually looking it. I recommend going with either the red or the white.
Risky Business Sunglasses: $14
For those hippie chicks, a pair of hand-painted vintage inspired sunglasses to pair with your scandalously short denim cut-offs, and flowing locks. Very cute, very cheap, damn I love Urban Outfitters. Read More »
