When it comes to fashion, I can’t say I’ve ever been one to get in touch with my masculine side. Ties, suspenders and loafers really don’t do it for me — or flatter my figure for that matter. However, ladies. Wearing shirts as dresses, now that’s sexy and trendy.

Yep, shirt dresses keep on making a comeback. I absolutely adored one that I bought from Express in high school. And I’m kicking myself now for letting my mother convince me to part with it. Hopefully, whoever snagged it at the Salvation Army appreciates its timelessness.

But as someone who always looks on the brighter side, I’m making the best of my loss. I’ll just have to buy a few to replace it. Yes, a few. Just in case Janet (my mom) decides to do any more spring cleaning — gotta have some back-ups.

Thick black and white bangles with printed designer logos to thin multi-color cuffs are populating everyone’s forearms these days. I love it. I mean, yes, the constant jingle, jangle is pretty annoying after a while, but no simple mini-dress or safari-esque outfit looks complete without ‘em.

My latest obsession really is the black Chanel bangle with the white logo coupled with a few other heavy black and white bracelets. (I noticed the combo in the “Green Issue” of Elle magazine on Christina Ricci and decided I NEEDED the look.)

Then again, a wrist-full of color is awesome too. So in an attempt to get both looks, cuffs/bangles – multi/black and white, I’ve found some super affordable alternatives to the pricey designer versions. Thank you Urban Outfitters and Forever21.

Yellow dresses are all the rage in Hollywood and let’s face it, yellow is just a fun, cheerful color that looks good on many different skin tones. Here are a few options for those of us that don’t have Hollywood bank accounts.

In a surprise move, the one-piece has become the rarer breed of swim apparel. The bikini gets all the attention. I mean, why shouldn’t it? It’s smaller, newer, and used to be a symbol of youthful rebellion. Not that I’m advocating some sort of return to traditional moral values (this is what my boyfriend thought when I told him I was writing about one-pieces). I just think the tank has a freshness about it. It invokes sultry women like Marilyn Monroe, Raquel Welch, and timeless hottie, Sophia Loren.

Plus, it’s completely unexpected. I don’t even remember the last time I wore a one-piece, but I’m fairly sure I was still in elementary school. Don’t you remember when your mom finally lifted the ban on bikinis? It was a big deal to trot down to your local mall and pick out the swimsuit that was sure to completely tranform your life and make that cute guy with the bowl cut and Airwalks fall in love with you.

But now we’re older, maybe a little wiser when we haven’t been drinking, and we know that sometimes it’s more exciting to show a little less skin. Make people use their imagination. If you still want to be overtly sexy, apparently a lot of guys have a big thing for a women in white swimwear…which isn’t surprising given the popularity of Cancun based wet t-shirt contests. Please don’t wear the dress with flip flops though, those are more Cancun than Nantucket. Instead, pick up these St. Tropez espadrilles from Jcrew on sale for $98.

Throw your sunblock and lip gloss in this bright tote from from Urban Outfitters, a total steal at $29.99. It’s an unexpected twist for an otherwise classic outfit.

Grab yourself a cashmere cardigan and add a charm bracelet and you’re ready to go.

As for make-up, all you really need is a couple of swipes of black mascara, stain blush for a natural flush and cherry chapstick. For a little extra glow, add some shimmery moisturizer… like this one from Neutrogena. Good luck and smooth sailing.

One of the big trends on the Spring runways was neon, like this hot pink mini-dress from Emanuel Ungaro or this colorful ensemble from Dsquared. If you would feel a little awkward and completely inappropriate wearing these outfits to class on Monday morning, you’re not alone. The key to neon is moderation, you don’t want to be channeling the 80s too heavily. It was a good decade for sure, but sometimes you just have to let go.

If you just want to dip your toe into the neon pool, slip on a pair of these patent flats by BC for $38 from Urban Outfitters.

If you want to be a little more true to the trend, this Nylon Taffeta Wind Breaker from American Apparel is a pretty good match to the Dsquared jacket and a complete steal at only $42.

There’s nothing sweeter than a little pink neon and this A-Line Party Skirt from Forever 21 is only $19 and would be epic with a little cap-sleeved black tee or if this craptastic weather keeps up, a turtleneck of the same shade.

This Jersey Baby Doll, also from Forever 21, will only set you back $17 and would look great with your skinny dark denim and a couple of gold bangles.

If you’re just not a neon girl, at least slip into something a little more comfortable and brighter than your normal attire, like this little number from Victoria’s Secret (Infinity Edge extreme plunge push-up, about $45).
