Fashion Porn: Yellow Orgy

My inspiration for Fashion Porn can come from anywhere. (OK, anywhere except actual porn. Have you seen what those people wear?!) Last week, for example, it came from kicking off my third summer in a row by donning a cowboy hat for a week. And this week I’m feeling inspired by none other than Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker and that gorgeous yellow Valentino dress she wore for the Sex And The City 2 premiere.

SJP looked stunning and vibrant in this bright yellow gown, a color that is often difficult to pull off.  But with the weather warming up, why shouldn’t everyone embrace the color of summer? It brightens up your look and echoes the color of sunlight.  It’s the perfect pop of color to add personality whether you’re soaking up rays on the beach or stuck at a desk in your cubicle.

Sure, not everyone can work (or afford) a dress like SJP, but you don’t have to go yellow from head to toe to get its beautiful effect. If you’re feeling a little uneasy there are many yellow shoes and accessories to help you incorporate the color into your wardrobe. Yellow nail polish is another easy and cheap way to add a splash of color to your look. From bikinis to tanks to statement necklaces, there are so many ways to bring a little yellow into your life and wardrobe this summer. So take a hint from America’s biggest fashion icon and slip into some yellow.

Leona Lewis Loves Her Pink and Black Deux Lux Ruffle Bucket Bag

leonaHave you met our new BFFs over at What’s Haute? We love popping over there to do some “window shopping” of all the designer bags and accessories that we would have to work for life and beyond to afford. Still, we can’t stop. Well, our friends know how we feel and now they are bringing us some cheaper (yet still beautiful) alternatives, right here on CollegeCandy. To see more couture goodness, visit What’s Haute.

Leona Lewis may be a rising star but that doesn’t mean she’s let her fame go to her head. Or to her wallet. The British pop singer was spotted on multiple occassions with a girly, ruffled handbag in pink and black. Was it a Valentino? Nope. A Be & D? Guess again. Leona actually prefers Deux Lux, in particular, the Deux Lux Ruffle Bucket Bag.

This polyurethane purse features a cascading row of ditsy floral-backed ruffle trim and matching floral lining, a zippered main compartment, and is finished with padded handles. And what does a bag like this cost?

A mere $68.

Looks like Leona is talented, stylish and financially savvy.

Rock the Look: Roses

picture-8.png

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with roses?

At Chanel’s spring 2009 couture show, models walked the runway adorned with paper roses in their hair. At Valentino and Moschino, dresses and accessories featured oversized origami-like roses. Looks like Carrie Bradshaw’s flower obsession is back…and bigger than ever.

If you don’t have a real bouquet to flaunt this weekend, throw on a rose embellished headband or pair of heels. Or pick up some rose-inspired fashion; you can add a little Spring to your wardrobe and stay one fashionable step ahead of your friends who are still trying to pull off the whole bow trend. Rock the Look: I Want It, I Need It

gift-box-med.jpg[Normally I devote this blog to helping you take a super trendy item and make it your own. But not this week. It's holiday season, people, and it is all about the gift lists. So, instead of showing you how to add a headband to your not-so-preppy wardrobe seamlessly, I am going to show you what everyone should beg, plead and assault Santa for this holiday season.]

Most girls can claim a love for fashion, and I am one of those girls. But my love runs deep. I live and breathe the stuff. Fashion Week is the best week of my year (yes, better than Welcome Week!), the fashion magazines are my bibles and I spend my days finding new and interesting ways to incorporate runway fashions into my college wardrobe.

It is no wonder, then, that my holiday wish-list is filled with high fashion items seen only on runways…and 5th Avenue. While I probably (ok, definitely) won’t be seeing any of the following items under my Christmas Tree this year, I do want them. Really, really badly. Read More »

Burger King Introduces Whopper Of A Cologne

bkk.jpgImagine you’re on a date. Things are going well, he’s funny and charming and you’re feeling pretty mellow. He gets closer, puts his arm around you, and (you know it’s coming) he leans in for a kiss. It’s that first, impossibly sexy moment of intimacy. You get a whiff of his musk and–is that a Whopper you smell??

No, it’s not his lunch on his breath that you’re sniffing, but his cologne. Thanks to our friends at Burger King, your man can now smell like his favorite fast-food sandwich with help from their newly released scent, Flame. It’s described by the BK cologne website Fire Meets Desire as “the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat.” Because nothing says “I wanna treat you like a princess” like smelling like a $2.39 pile of grease. Flame will be sold on the Fire Meets Desire website as well as at New York City-based retailer, Ricky’s, for a mere $4 a spray-bottle.

I’m not quite sure why the Burger King himself (who, by the way, looks like the result of an illegitimate mating between Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and Flava Flav) appears on the website reclining nude in front of a fire with just a fur blanket. Seeing that made me feel as though I’d just rubbed my eyes with horseradish. And is it just me, or have there been a lot of unorthodox colognes being released on the market lately? Next up: Valentino’s Eau du Public Transportation.

That being said, if the sweet aroma of the Whopper does send tingles down your spine, this is just the gift for you. After all, it’s not that strange to want to combine food and sex. Burger King just may be onto something with this food-scented body spray. As my friend said, if nothing else, it gives a new meaning to the term “special sauce.”

Fashion Rocks 2008: The Classy, Sassy, & Strange

fr08_show_beyonce2.jpg

You know how everyone loves to pick apart celebrity outfits — and also listen to awesome music, perferably at the same time? Well, Fashion Rocks 2008 is the answer to your worst dressed / best song hankerings.

The night was full of sequins, Beyonce belting out Etta James and dueting with Justin Timberlake, Rihanna sporting some serious scary feathers, and the continuation of trend that is celebs using their time to fight cancer. Although not everyone hit a home run on the red carpet fashion department (I’m looking at both of you, Solange and Tyra), the night looked a hell of a lot better than say…the MTV VMAs. At least people, you know, took the time to attempt classiness.

After the jump, peruse through some of the night’s more famous faces and click on the pics to see even more… Read More »

From Runway to Sociology 101: Hot Spring Fashion

Like any self-respecting college girl, I always tote the newest Vogue, Elle, and if I’m feeling especially mainstream-In Style, on the elliptical with me. But as I’m burning the calories, toning the legs, and admiring the duds, I can’t help but wonder how anyone in college could pull this stuff off without being gawked at (and not in the good way) by your typical sweatpant clad college male.

Let’s take Balenciaga‘s Spring ready-to-wear collection. Obviously, gold leggings were the stunner of this show. And why not? They’re totally hot….and $100,000, and one kind of gets the impression not too comfortable.

Balenciaga S/S 2007

For a mere $36 dollars you can pick up a pair of gold leggings from your local American Apparel, pair them with a black jersey mini-dress, cute flats, and hit the library in style.
