VICE Covers Full-Figured Fashion Week

Full-Figured Fashion Week? I didn’t know it existed either, but good thing! VICE is running an eight-episode series called Fashion Week Internationale that will “document the most implausible and outrageous fashion weeks around that world, that you’ve probably never heard of.” Well, honestly I don’t think Full-Figured Fashion week is implausible or outrageous. It’s pretty great, actually. But in the eyes of the fashion world, it’s definitely unheard of.

In a world of sizes 0 and 2, it’s awesome to see full-figured ladies taking the runway in designer creations. After watching the episode, I noticed they walk with more confidence than the skinniest of models. I’ve been to and been in several shows, and I have never seen girls strut quite like the women in this VICE piece.

All women should feel beautiful, and it’s awesome to see the fashion world taking a step in the right direction. However, I’d really like to see a show that includes women of all sizes just like everyone else. It’s so inspiring that these women have taken it upon themselves to create their own fashion week, and hopefully it will draw some much needed attention to the cause.

College Friends vs. High School Bonds

I remember going to college expecting to make some of the best friends of my life. It had always seemed that way — you have nice high school friends, but gradually they fade out of the picture and your college friends dominate your life. Wasn’t that the way it was supposed to be?

As I arrived at school and plunged into the rigorous academic environment that was promised in the Princeton brochure, the social scene surprised me in some way. There were the usual kinds of people I expected — the jocks, the preps, the econ majors — but not the friendships I was looking forward to.

I had dining hall buddies (people to eat and swap jokes with), and homework buddies (people to frantically share answers on problem sets with), but there was no gang of girls sharing secrets and supporting each other the way there was in high school. I compared notes with other friends and they agreed; for one reason or another, no one had as close friendships in college as they did in high school.

The Hills: Lauren Dances With the Enemy

03_stephanie-heidi.jpgMy apologies for yet another delayed follow-up to The Hills. It seems that my bed was the only thing I was thinking about Monday night as I passed out before 10PM. It wasn’t until yesterday morning when I received a text message from my friend (“Does Stephanie Pratt Curl her bangs?!”) that I realized the atrocity I had committed.

I rushed home from work to catch up, and even though MTV aired a double feature again, I was left with many questions:

What is up with Stephanie’s bangs?

How does Lauren’s hair go from long to short to long again?

And what exactly is Ms. Stephanie Pratt up to? Read More »
