Truth: You love hot dogs off the grill.
Truth: Your family is ridiculous and you’d much rather spend the time with people who don’t make inappropriate jokes about hot dogs. Or at least people who make funny inappropriate jokes about hot dogs. And are under the age of 65.

Because Great Uncle Bert’s war stories (a war which he was not in) are easier to listen to when you’ve got Bud Light coursing through your veins. The best part? You can play alone and, being that you leave the BBQ with a killer buzz, you always end up the winner.

What you will need:
A case of domestic beer (we’re celebrating America, aren’t we?)
Various other alcoholic beverages
Your drinking hat

Let’s Play:
- Chug your first beer if you are the only single person there (over the age of 16)/chug your first beer if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend, but they are playing this game at their own family BBQ

- Take a shot every time someone asks you if you are dating someone.

- Take another if they don’t at least feign surprise when you say you are not.

- Take a double shot every time someone asks what you’re studying and/or what you plan to do now that you’ve graduated.

- Mix and drink a screwdriver every time your mother nags about your lack of job or job prospects (“What are you going to do with a Communications degree!?”). You’re screwed in this market, anyway.

- Take a Kamikaze shot every time grandpa mentions his time in WW2.

- Pour one for our fallen heroes if anyone even mentions the real purpose of Memorial Day.

- Bring out the beer bong if someone starts talking about ‘Ole Dubya (George W. Bush), John McCain or the “glory days before Obama.”

- Take a drink every time someone says something that could be taken sexually and someone immature (i.e. you) giggles/responds with “that’s what she said.”

- Have a shot of whiskey every time your father/uncle/grandfather/brother almost burns off their eyebrows or arm hair with the grill.

- Take a sip every time your father/uncle/grandfather/brother talks about how he is the master of the grill and no one can grill up meat like him.

- Assign three drinks to anyone who says they are on a diet and only want salad.

- Put down your drink and start crying if someone comments on how much you are eating/how you should be on a diet.

- Polish off whatever is open and not finished if grandma/some other woman in your family leaves a big, wet lipstick print on your cheek when she says goodbye.

By the end of the night, your family should be bearable and your legs should feel like Jell-0. A Memorial Day BBQ victory!

So why was Cronkite billed as the most trusted man in American during his tenure at CBS? If you look at his résumé, it is quite impressive; Cronkite reported on several historic (and tragic) events, including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. His brand of journalism – “report the news, don’t become it” – has been praised by his contemporaries as well as by today’s top journalists. His coverage of the following events makes him a journalism legend:

Kennedy assassination
Cronkite is perhaps best known for breaking the news of the Kennedy assassination live on November 22, 1963. The footage of the broadcast is fascinating to watch; in spite of the nature of the story (as it is the first time such news was broadcast on live television), Cronkite maintained his composure and reported as a journalist should, although there was noticeable emotion in his voice after he read the official AP bulletin reporting that JFK was dead.

Vietnam War coverage
In February of 1968, Cronkite reported on the aftermath of the Tet Offensive from Vietnam. When he returned, he filed an editorial report confirming that the situation in Vietnam was not close to victory, but rather a difficult stalemate out of which the U.S. would have to negotiate. After the story aired, President Lyndon Johnson reportedly said, “If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America.” Johnson did not seek reelection that year.

Apollo 11 Lunar Landing mission
Cronkite is known for his often enthusiastic coverage of the U.S. space program. On July 20, 1969, the historic day that man first set foot on the moon, Cronkite was noticeably excited, seen on camera rubbing his hands together and smiling. Cronkite criticized himself for being unprofessional during that broadcast.

Watergate scandal
Although Cronkite’s reporting on Watergate was “nothing new,” according to a 2006 PBS documentary, he is credited with informing the American public of the situation, bringing together a range of reporting to do so.

Death of Lyndon Johnson
Cronkite was one of the first to receive the news of Johnson’s death on January 22, 1973. Johnson’s press secretary called Cronkite personally to inform him. When CBS cut to Cronkite for the report, he was still on the phone with the press secretary and held up his finger, signaling that he was still listening for more information. He relayed the details to the public when the press secretary was finished.

This week, we have a very special treat in store–instead of featuring one luscious lad, we have decided to salute ten of Hollywood’s hottest vets in honor of Memorial Day. Some battled enemies on the war front, others on screen, but all of these studs are on our short list for a pleasure-filled patriotic eff. After all, what’s hotter than a man in uniform?

1. Jimmy Stewart (US Air Force)
The star of my all-time favorite movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, served part of his wonderful life in the US Air Force.  Looks like Clarence the angel wasn’t the only one who got his wings!

2. Elvis Presley (US Army)
The King was a member of the Army before he was a member of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.  For his service and those sick swingin’ hips, I’ve got just one thing to say: thankyuhverymuuhch!

3.  Jake Gyllenhaal (Screen Vet)
The ferocious indie-hunk immortalized the first Gulf War in 2005′s Jarhead. Tell me, Jake, have those guns in that photo been authorized by the Marines?

4.  Josh Hartnett (Screen Vet)
Josh has pulled two, erm, tours of duty–one in the WWII film Pearl Harbor, and another in Black Hawk Down, the film portraying American involvement in the Somalian civil war.

5. Martin Sheen (Screen Vet)
Another two-time screen vet, the West Wing President was first a US Army captain in Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam War epic, Apocalypse Now and as Civil War General Robert E. Lee in Gettysburg.

6. Alan Alda (Screen Vet)
The recent 30 Rock guest star first shot to stardom on one of television’s most popular shows, the Korean War comedy M*A*S*H.  Anyone who can make wartime funny is worth an eff in my book.

7. Humphrey Bogart (US Navy)
One of the true classic film stars, Casablanca cassanova Bogart served in the US Navy (and enjoyed all the girls he met at sea!).

8. Matthew Broderick (Screen Vet)
SJP’s hubby made unfettered determinism (and facial hair) sexy in the timeless Civil War film, Glory. No trace of Ferris Bueller-esque slackerism here.

9. Joe DiMaggio (Army)
He thanked the good Lord for making him a Yankee, but we thank the pinstriped papa for his service to his country. Joltin’ Joe took a hiatus from the House that Ruth Built and joined the Army during WWII.

10. Ben Affleck (Screen Vet)
Oscar-winning celeb and Jennifer Garner’s baby daddy had all of our hearts a-thumpin’ in Pearl Harbor, alongside fellow hottie Josh Hartnett (see above).

The event is going to be moderated by NBC’s Tom Brokaw, but instead of Tommy asking the questions, the debate will have a town hall format.

Which means the people get to ask the questions.

So, people of Nashville who will be sitting pretty in the town hall-y debate, if you are reading this, we have a few questions we’d like to ask the candidates. Real questions that require real answers instead of that fluff Gwen Ifill came up with (and Sarah Palin dodged) during the VP “debate.”

1. Honestly, do you think President Bush was qualified to run this country? If not, how does that make you feel now? How badly would you hate yourself if you lost?

2. Inquiring minds want to know: Peanut Butter Crunch or Crunch Berries?

3. If you could only change one thing during your term as President (and money was not an issue), what would it be?

4. When SNL makes fun of you, does it hurt?

5. Barack, do you really eat 4-6 eggs a day, or are you a p*ssy who only eats the whites?

6. Tell us, McCain, what have you learned from living through the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam and the current Iraq sitch?

7. Would you rather have George Bush walk in on you having sex, or walk in on he and Laura doin’ the naughty dance?

8. What would you do to Osama Bin Laden if you had him in your office right now (and no one was watching)?

9. Would you eat PB slices?

10. Do you really like holding babies/shaking people’s hands/hugging creepy strangers, or is it all an act?

11. You both claim to want to fix the current Global Warming problem, yet you both tool around this country on airplanes/in giant buses. How can you justify that?

12. Is there any money left in either of your budgets to help Amy Winehouse?

That’s right. Sylvester Stallone, who’s like 60 years old or something, has just inked a deal to star in two more films with his Rambo producers.

Strangely enough, Stallone’s two new (yet so old) films “Rocky Balboa” and “Rambo” actually did well at the box office, which means people still want to see this dude kick major ass with either his fist or a giant gun.

While I’m sure Stallone will create more movies based around testosterone and sparse dialogue (say what you want about him, but the guy understands his limitations), I doubt either of them will solve the burning question I’ve had since I was forced to watch the first Rambo movie:

What’s with the bandana?!

I mean it. Look. In First Blood, Rambo is all pissed because he’s a vet and no one gives him any respect and everyone is wicked mean to him and chaises him up into the mountains and he has no choice but to kill and maim like 500 guys. That logic I could follow. But where the movie lost me, where it totally got unbelievable, is when Rambo rips a piece of cloth off his already falling apart shirt and ties it onto his head for that trademarked bandana.

There’s no reason for it!!

Listen to me! There isn’t! It’s not like his hair was in his eyes. It’s not like a bandana allows your brain more circulation! Hell, when the military is after you, you don’t have time for anything except crafting Vietnam-esque spike traps with your bare hands! There’s no time for fashion, Rambo!!

…And yet. The bandana…Remains.

The only way Stallone will make me happy is if one of his new movies is all about why he loves performance-enhancing drugs (and why they’re so safe!! So natural!!), and the other one is all about the bandana. Rocky’s Bandana, they could call it.

Explain the bandana, Stallone, and I’ll love you and your crazy old muscles forever.

His popularity is high among America’s youth, as he promotes their culture and holds many of the same liberal views stereotypically attributed to this age group.

Another group Obama scores big with? The hip hop community.

Obama has appeared on the cover of this month’s Vibe Magazine and is nicknamed “B-Rock” within its pages, according to a recent report by CNN. Although, in the past, Barack Obama has been accused of criticizing rap music, his recent meeting with esteemed (and unforgivably raunchy) rapper Ludacris is said to have been focused upon “empowering the youth” and promoting AIDS awareness, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Rappers seem to forgive Obama for his lack of musical support, as his name has been mentioned in a variety of rap songs such as “The People” by Common and Talib Kweli’s “Say Something”. In these songs, the rappers aquaint Obama with positive change and the empowerment of African Americans.

All of this free publicity contributes to Obama’s alternate style of approaching the election. Obama Girl unintentionally stirred up the public when she appeared in a video unsponsered by the candidate’s campaign. Now, a slew of rap songs (again, obviously not sponsered by a man who has apprehended the lewdness of rap and its disrespect against women) are cropping up left and right.

While it seems paradoxical for rappers to support a man who has insulted their art and avoids discussing rap music in order to avoid being pegged as a “rap hater”, it also shows that rappers care about the government as much they care about Bentley’s and half naked women…thank God.
