This video is titled “World’s Most Beautiful Marriage Proposal” on YouTube. Um, excuse me. I beg to differ. This is the most absolutely terrifying marriage proposal I’ve ever seen.

The video is from a Fox show called Mobbed. Basically, they plan huge flash mobs. I thought this video might be really cute, because there are some adorable marriage proposal flash mobs on YouTube. But it’s awful!

At the start of the video, the woman and her boyfriend are sitting at dinner. In order to give him an excuse to leave the table to set up for the flash mob, they make the poor girl think he’s cheating on her. An actress comes up to the table, says “You should have told me about her!” and pours a glass of water on him. So now the girl is crying, and thinks her boyfriend is cheating on her. And then everybody in the restaurant starts singing and dancing.

They take her outside, where there are tons of people dancing, singing, and chanting her name. The man proposes, and (luckily for him) she says yes. So now her emotional rollercoaster of a night must be over, right? Wrong. She’s informed that she’s getting married right then. They put an ugly dress on her, right on top of her clothes. Then her family and friends appear, and she gets married. Minutes after being made to think that her boyfriend is cheating on her.

Note to anyone who may consider proposing to at any point in the future: this is NOT the way to do it. Check out the video above!

Dear Tuffy Luv,

My best frenemy is getting married. Ok, fine. I was happy for her. The problem is she asked me to make a speech. Tuffy, this girl is not someone I can say something nice about. We have a lot of the same friends so I can’t back out of giving the speech, but we have had a lot of problems in the past.

She dated my ex boyfriend after I broke up with him even though I told her I wasn’t ok with it. She caused a lot of drama with our mutual friends in the past. I dont want to even go in to it here, but trust me this girl is not nice.

But we have a lot of the same friends. And we have been friends since the beginning of high school.

Tuffy, I honestly do not have any thing nice to say. What should I do?

Dear Frenemy,

Welp, I think you’re stuck making this speech. Girl obviously doesn’t consider you a frenemy or she wouldn’t have asked you to talk. So, um, there’s that. Is this chick oblivious, or is this state of freneminity on your side only?! Whatever. It doesn’t matter. The point is, you don’t care for her, but you have to pretend you do. Except, actually, like, you HAVE been pretending you do. So, um, that’s sort of phony, isn’t it?

Girls of the Internet: STOP HAVING FRENEMIES. What the floop is the point?! If you don’t like someone, don’t hang out with them!!! If they’re friends with your friends, try to be nice but, for crying out loud, don’t act like you’re their actual FRIEND!!! Haven’t you ever heard of “acquaintances?!” You can be perfectly polite and kind to someone WITHOUT making them think you want to GIVE A SPEECH AT THEIR WEDDING.

But, bygones. Okay. So. You have to give this speech, yes?

If I were you, my little Frenemy, I would talk to all your many mutual friends. Get quotes from them about things they like. And quote them in your speech. Show her how many people love her. And tie it together by saying (I HOPE truthfully) that you hope she and her betrothed have a wonderful future together. And then stay out of it.

Even though we’re all about living the carefree and wild life at CollegeCandy, we do have hearts. Somewhere inside our bodies. I mean, our doctors claim we do and after watching this super cutesy video we know we do. Just watch and you’ll see what we mean.

I’m convinced everyone thinks about their wedding day. Even if it’s an event you can’t picture taking place for another 15 years, you’ve at least considered the possibility that it could happen. And when you imagine this most sacred of days, you likely also wonder who you’ll be standing up there with. He (or she) will be wildly attractive, that’s obvious. They’ll be brilliant and funny and love puppies, also a duh. But will they be a good kisser? Of course! Wait…right?

Some couples wait to take the big plunge until after they’re lawfully wed. Please note that when I say “big plunge,” I’m not talking about sex. That’s right, in certain religious communities and social spheres, it’s somewhat commonplace to wait until your wedding day before so much as kissing your future husband or wife.

We don’t think putting off the First Kiss milestone is necessarily the best way to go. While it can be a sweet concept (we think), in reality it’s completely impractical and absurd. Here’s why:

1. Everyone has encountered a bad kisser somewhere along their dating path. Thankfully, you didn’t encounter them at the altar. Instead of hitching yourself to an over-enthusiastic face licker, go ahead and test the goods beforehand.

2. There’s just no sexual chemistry. Rarer, but still possible: the person you’ve been lusting after was more lust-worthy in your head. And usually it takes a make-out sesh to figure this out.

3. Figuring sex out on your honeymoon would be a big enough pain in the…not butt. Why toss a Beginners Kissing 101 lesson in there, too? Ugh, complicated!

4. A combination of all these reasons, as vividly exhibited here.

Dear Tuffy Luv,

I have a problem that most girls would kill to have. My boyfriend of three years proposed to me.

The problem is, I don’t think I want to go through with it. I’m graduating college in June. He graduated last year and moved back home with his parents. Since then, he’s been working at the mall near where he grew up. It’s only an hour away from school so I still see him all the time, and he seems really happy.

But that’s the problem. He seems really happy just working at the mall. I want to have a whole career and I think I have a chance at getting a job at the firm where I’m interning. I thought the two of us had similar goals, but, since the summer, I’ve come to realize we don’t. He wants to just go to work and come home and hang out, but I want to have a real career and if I have to work late or weekends, I’m fine with that. He gets really sad if I ever stay late at my internship. He says jobs are so you can afford to live, but I see my job as more than that.

We started dating when I was a freshman, and while I like him a lot, I just don’t think he’s “the one.” I feel like we’re better as friends. I’ve known this for a while, but I really care about him a lot (he was my first for pretty much everything, and he’s a really good guy), but I didn’t want to hurt him so I guess I just kind of let it keep going. He’s a good person and I could see myself with him but I just don’t think I’d be happy.

I already said yes to getting married. He proposed in front of a bunch of our friends and I didn’t want to make him feel bad. But now I’m panicked because I KNOW I do not want to marry him but now it’s so much worse! Help!!!!!!!

Fiancee

Dear Fiancee,

Wow, that does suck.

Okay, well, obviously you can’t just “let it keep going.” I mean, you really canNOT marry the guy. That would be sucky for you and VERY unfair for him.

See, really, you should have told him how you felt when you were originally feeling it. Because NOW it’s like you’ve been lying to him.

But don’t freak out!! You have to do it, but you’re going to do it in the nicest way possible.

Meet up with him and just tell him the whole truth. (Well, I wouldn’t mention not liking that he’s happy at his job; that might come off as condescending. Say the other stuff: how you love him but you just don’t think this is the right thing right now.) He’ll be mad. You’ll probably both cry. But, ultimately, it’s the right thing to do, and hopefully someday he’ll respect you for it.

And more importantly, you won’t end up with someone you know isn’t the one and he won’t end up with someone who doesn’t want to be with him.

You know this sucks. And you know it will keep on sucking. But once you do it, I promise life as a whole will suck less.

And then, in fact, you can both start fresh and find someone who’s right for you.

I’ve never been the girl to think about my future too much or obsess over meeting Mr. Right. I’ve met a whole lot of Mr. Wrongs lately so I’ve been happy hanging out with Mr. Right-Nows instead.

Even when I was little, unlike many other girls, I never ever fantasized about my future wedding… until now.

I’m 21 and I’ve got the bridal bug. It’s all I can think about! I don’t know if it’s all the “Say Yes to the Dress” episodes I’ve been watching (I’m obsesssssed) or if my biological clock is fiercely ticking faster, but all I can think about is weddings, weddings, weddings.

Over the past few months I’ve gone from an I’m-never-getting-married mentality to I-want a-short-ceremony-on-the-beach-250-guests-top-and-a-Monique-Lhuilier-dress-from-the-2010-spring-collection mentality. And my sudden interest in floral arrangements and color palettes is starting to freak me out.

I realize a wedding and a marriage are two completely separate concepts: a wedding lasts a day, while marriage is supposed to last forever. But I realllly want to have that one day of planned perfection right now.

Does anyone else feel this way? And should I feel bad or pathetic for feeling the way I do?

I’ve always been a huge supporter of single womanhood and feeling complete without the presence of a man or relationship, so why all of a sudden do I feel that I need a WEDDING to feel whole?

Am I starving for some attention? Is this just the natural effect of a society that has us believe from a young age that women aren’t fully complete until they’re married? Or is my uncharacteristic desire for romantic bliss a sign that I’m desperate for a relationship?

These are all questions that I just don’t have the answers to. But Dr. Phil does, obviously. According to him, if a woman is feeling any type of pressure to get married or the desire to get married (without the presence of a boyfriend…let alone a fiancé) she has lots of issues that can only be solved by these types of self-probing questions.

I’m not too keen on Dr. Phil (he seriously creeps me out), so does anyone else have better advice for me? Help me, and fast, before I pack an overnight back and camp out for Kleinfeld’s next blowout sale.

I can only imagine what the rest of their life together will be like. Everyone following the couple on Twitter will be alerted to when they have officially consummated the relationship. Probably something along the lines of “I think we just successfully created our first offspring!” In fact, she will probably follow in the footsteps of the woman who tweeted while giving birth. I guess it might take her mind of the labor pains? But chances are nobody wants to know that you can see the head popping out of your womanly parts. I can’t imagine that getting very many “likes” on Facebook.

Since when has social networking taken such precedence in our daily lives? Take for example, the couple that gets engaged and then changes their relationship status that very same night. I can think of a couple other things you could be doing that definitely do not involve a computer.

I understand that this particular couple was trying to be funny; a new spin on the wedding entrance dance that became a viral hit overnight. But this just made me want to smack the iPhone out of the groom’s hands. Maybe…. MAYBE… if that was Mark Zuckerberg himself getting married… maybe then I could appreciate the humor in this. Otherwise, please refrain from Facebooking during your sacred union. Trust me, the world will keep spinning.

This is one of the times in life when I wish Facebook had a “dislike” option. People should be enjoying living their lives, not sitting in front of a computer or smart phone, documenting it.

Originally, I was going to write an empowering and witty article about all the physical and mental benefits of being single.  Then I started my research and found…there were none.  Seriously.  Every study points in exactly the opposite direction.  Apparently, the healthiest thing we can do is get married.  Like, immediately.

Not gonna lie, I was kinda disappointed when I found out.  But then I reconsidered…maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to get married right now, especially considering all these health benefits.  I could even print out the list and slap it down on the desk of that gorgeous guy in my photography class, saying “Eh? Eh? C’mon, it’s healthy.”  He won’t be able to resist, obviously.

In case you plan on executing a ninja-style attack on a cute guy like I do (that is, in fact, how I pick up all my boyfriends), I’ve made you a handy-dandy list of reasons to print out and share with your friends and crushes.  So here you go – all the reasons and benefits of getting married NOW!

Decreased Risk of Alzheimers/Dementia – Your risk of developing alzheimers, dementia, or any sort of cognitive impairment is halved when you’re married (compared to if you are single, divorced, separated or widowed).  Can’t argue with that…or, actually, you can ’cause you’ll be married and still have all your cognitive thought processes in place.

More Money – If you’re a modern woman, you’ve probably thrown a few bucks into the pot when you’re out on a date.  It’s just polite and what’s a few nights of paying for dessert or drinks gonna hurt?  Well, your bank account, for one (or at least mine).  When you’re married, you’ll have a larger pot to pull from and will therefore be able to save a lot more, too.

Less Smoking/Drinking – When you get married, you’ll obviously spend way less time at the bars because you’ll have already snagged yourself a winner.  This means less drinking and smoking (supposedly).  Also, there will be less Bridget Jones-esque nights spent on your couch in your flannels, drowning your sorrows in tobacco and wine while watching the Lifetime network (again, supposedly).

More (Safe) Sex – Assuming your ninja attack on the hottie who sits behind you in class works out, you’ll have free reign on bedroom fun time.  Who could resist?  Also, you’ll be doing less of the skanking-it-up-at-the-bar move (hopefully), which means less of  chance to catch herpes and whatnot while still getting laid on a regular basis. Win!

Less Physical Pain – If you’re married, you tend to suffer less from back pain and headaches. Awesome!  I’m assuming this is because your husband will do all the heavy lifting for you while moving into your new dorm room in the fall.  Also, they can take your finals for you because you will be legally one person.  So many benefits, it’s almost like having a personal assistant (or EXACTLY like having a personal assistant!).

As same-sex couples around the country take to the battlefields to fight for their right to marry, American TV is making a mockery of the very thing these couples are wishing for. The collective majority of Americans are against allowing a same-sex couple to enjoy the sanctity of marriage, claiming we should “protect the institution of marriage” and uphold traditional American values. Yet, a new reality show reveals America’s hypocritical nature by turning marriage into a cheap game show.

Hitched or Ditched poses the ultimate ultimatum to a rocky couple: Get married in a week or end it for good. Viewers are drawn to the drama and suspense of whether a couple will say “I do” or be publicly humiliated with rejection. This all or nothing, sh*t-or-get-off-the-pot attitude cheapens the idea of marriage. This show will only reinforce our generation’s cynical attitude that marriages and weddings are nothing more than expensive circuses built around an attention-whoring couple. Something akin to the Speidi extravaganza comes to mind.

This is also an example of why our divorce rate is so high. Couples end up at the alter for all the wrong reasons. They feel pressure from each other or friends and family. They marry to take advantage of the monetary benefits, or they see marriage as an excuse to throw a blowout party in their name. But these are the couples who America roots for. These are the couples who are allowed to participate in a sacred union that is continually denied to legitimately in-love couples.

The same people who are picketing against gay marriage are sitting on their couches and watching America exploit matrimony for entertainment value. Where is the logic in that?

Hitched or Ditched is trainwreck reality TV that cheapens the battle that same-sex couples go to bat for everyday. I, for one, will stick with Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway.
