For girls who live or go to school in snowy states, winter provides some unique fashion challenges. One of the biggest dilemmas we face has got to be finding fashionable footwear that keeps us toasty, dry, and slip-free.

Leather and suede styles require some extra TLC for winter conditions and aren’t as durable or practical as other styles. Rain boots and wellingtons are adorable and help to keep you from falling, but generally aren’t particularly warm, even with a thick sock. I love most things about fall – anything made with pumpkin, cozy sweaters and my TV shows starting back up – but the one thing I’ve never been a fan of is the dampness and rain that comes with all these wonderful things. At least until I invested in a pair of good quality rain boots. Now on those damp days my toes can stay warm and dry, even when I decide to go puddle-jumping (or am forced to when I try to cross a street and find myself ankle-deep in water).

If you have to walk any distance to school, you should own a pair of rain boots. Period. They are functional (keeping those tootsies dry), yes, but super fashionable as well. There are so many colors and styles out there and they’re just plain cute. And when the temperature starts to drop, many styles even offer fleece liners to keep your toes extra dry and toasty all through the winter, making them a very good investment piece!

I have a secret.

I love rain boots a little more than anyone my age probably should. However, I feel this love is justified – on top of being SUPER adorable, wellies also keep your feet dry, making them practical as well. Over the last few years, retailers have rolled out all sorts of fun, bright-colored, patterned boots for you to go dancing in the rain. They start relatively inexpensive for the hesitant puddle jumper, and quickly escalate in price, for those looking to invest in a pair of multi-seasonal boots.

While you might be seeing stars by the price of some of these boots, keep in mind, if you buy a pair of quality, 100% rubber boots they will not only last you a life time (Hunter’s, after all, were used during trench warfare in WWI), but when lined properly can take you to -10 (Celsius that is) weather.

With the quick approach of spring showers, wellies, joined by raincoats and umbrellas, are the perfect remedy for being able to stomp to class without looking like a drowned rat. With lots of fun patterns, styles and colors to choose from there’s plenty of ways to stay dry… in style.

Not to mention, you can always invite boys to stand under your super cute umbrella…

You have everything you could possibly need for college…or so you thought. Below is a list of 5 must-have items for every college student. You know; the things that you would never think of, but really can’t survive without.

Time to make one more shopping run. I know you never want to see the inside of a Target again, but suck it up; you are going to need these.

1. Rain Boots. I never wore rain boots at home because if it’s raining you just don’t go outside. Back in High School you drove to class and maybe an umbrella is all you needed. But in college you have to walk to every class and sometimes that can be quite a lot of walking. Investing in some wellies will definitely be worth it. There is nothing worse than arriving to class with water seeping through your shoes and waterlogged socks. Spring has almost well and truly sprung (although judging by the volume of welly-wearers and inverted brollies here in the UK, you’d never know it!). With the sunshine and cute baby lambs come the impending boom of car-boot sales (that’s yard sales to most of you), a tradition which is to me like soil is to the newly blooming flowers. Sort of.

Whilst the mass population flock to high-street retailers in a desperate bid to exchange plastic for summerwear, I on the other hand will be relaxing in the fresh spring air (global warming pending). My bargains will come from charity shops and markets, rather than the Reduced To Clear section of my local River Island.

Not only do you gain the positives of air and exercise whilst indulging in some cheaply priced Mills and Boon titles (not that, y’know, I’d know from personal experience or anything..) but you gain the sheer satisfaction of knowing you’re recycling, and in some cases helping a charity or two along the way.

Second-hand shopping is a shopping experience like no other; the feeling of knowing you are helping others can bring a perpetual glow to your cheeks. And if that’s not a true bargain, then I don’t know what is.

The world is ending, I’m convinced. This weather is absolutely insane and I, for one, can no longer just wing-it and not check weather.com before getting dressed in the morning.

I’ve been finding myself being utterly unprepared for whatever temperature or different act of nature that seems to occur on a freaking DAILY BASIS.

So basically I went on the prowl for (cute) spring rain-gear that might make getting up early and getting dressed just a little more fun (but not really) and lo-and-behold I found everything I wanted at the beloved Target.

The Umbrella – You have two choices here. Option one, you can use a small, indiscrete umbrella that fits into your bag andshort, patent leather version you can pop out at a moments notice or option two, you can use something like this clear, bubble version.

If you choose the latter, you’re basically securing that your hair will not touch water at any point in time and if a typhoon suddenly occurs, you were the only prepared one.
