Just in case you needed a reminder that celebrities your age are making a lot more money than you, here’s another one from Moviefone. They count down the 14 highest paid young celebs. Spoiler alert: it’s truly crazy how much money vampires can make these days. And it’s even crazier trying to figure out how they spend it. We know it’s not on shampoo or shirts or tooth whitening kits (or maybe they do. It’s hard to know because they never smile. Ever. They’re the unhappiest multi-millionaires in the world!).

Vampires aren’t the only ones raking it in though. The list includes wizards, movie stars and Nickelodeon stars that I guess must be big in the tween world. Check it out here.

Meet Taylor Momsen, hooker assassin/charming sixteen-year-old who recently shared this insightful tidbit of information about herself:

Blake Lively put herself on the radar with her debut in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but it was her starring role in Gossip Girl that ushered her into stardom and really put her on the map. It’s hard not to notice her gorgeous blonde locks, those perfect legs that go for miles and her stunning smile, but on top of those physical features, Blake’s got a timeless and perfect style. Blake Lively has the ability to do something many of us hope we can pull off: look phenomenal not only when all dolled up, but also when doing her daily business in jeans and sweaters. She’s a huge fan of Chanel and oftentimes seems to embody the old glamour that Coco Chanel created.

Part of Lively’s flawless style is her ability to accentuate her assets perfectly. She shows off her gorgeous gams with skinny jeans that accentuate all the right details, and she is a master at coming up with the perfect outfit – from clothes, to shoes, to bags and accessories. Add her hottie bf/co-star, Penn Badgley, onto her arm and this girl is the hottest of hot young Hollywood, through and through.

My favorite fashion-conscious celeb this week is Miss Leighton Meester. Since becoming a bonafide star after Gossip Girl came to the silver screen last fall, this girl can be seen all over the young Hollywood circuit consistently looking put-together and gorgeous.

I love how she puts young and modern spins on classics, and while she’ll vamp it up with short skirts or backless dresses, she never crosses the line into Slutville. Not only does she choose the right clothes for her personal style, coloring and body-type, she accessorizes fabulously well and knows how to mix & match appropriately.

She really showed off her stuff during Fashion Week in NYC two weeks ago and proved that she’s one of Hollywood’s best dressed. If I had access to her wardrobe, I think I might just die and go to heaven.

Vanity Fair recently came out with “Hollywood’s Next Wave” of teen superstars, and besides the fact that at 25 I already feel too old to know who half of the kids are (25! Too old!), there was one other tiny piece of information that made me feel a little strange. Out of the 28 teens featured in the article, 2 of them were something other than Caucasian.

Either Young Hollywood has systematically sorted out all of its ethnicity, or Vanity Fair is straight up stupid.

A big magazine like VF has loads of money, and the power to change how we as a society view ourselves. They can break down barriers and send that message to hundreds of thousands of readers across the county. Why oh why, then, are they taking Hampton-esque pictures of kids who all kinda look the same (half of whom will probably disappear into obscurity in 3 years), and not-so-subtly telling America that the media is still whitewashed? I’ll answer that rhetorical question. They’re doing it because like most big media conglomerates, they’re more concerned with money than they are with actually saying something of merit.

So go on propagating the theory that minorities don’t exist, Vanity Fair. Keep on pushing the girls-must-be-skinny-but-guys-can-be-hilarious-and-chubby way of thinking. Continue asking lame-ass, ridiculous questions (“Jimmy Choo or Christian Louboutin?“, “BlackBerry or iPhone?“) to anyone under the age of 21. You’re doing a great job being mundane and conservative.

Understandably so. It’s easy to hate them. In some cases, it is envy that fuels my hatred. In others, well…

I won’t even go there with no-talent Paris Hilton. But what is Brody Jenner famous for – being Brody Jenner? And Lauren Conrad has a clothing line because – why? Not because she’s that great of a designer, that’s for sure.

A lot of them don’t seem to work and have all of this money to go on fabulous vacations; they ‘produce’ reality shows on which they basically get followed around as they are famous and still do nothing; they go out to cool clubs while getting photographed by the paparazzi – and really, what are some of them famous for again?

So I asked myself why I hated them. Not the famous-for-nothing-people. But the Lindsey Lohan’s, the Kirsten Dunst’s and any others who have real careers but seem to be personally losing control.

Because on the surface, hating Young Hollywood in general is obvious – they are squandering their money, their fame, their careers, and their youth.

Taking away the famous-for-nothing and looking at the ones with real careers and talent, I wondered if I could say that still hated the real Young Hollwood.

Before the onslaught of the celebrity blogs, every peril in Hollywood that a young actor could face was experienced by Drew Barrymore – she went to rehab twice by the time that she had turned 14. And while her partying was well documented, I think she wouldn’t have been able to have turn her life into what it is today had she’d lived through the media scrutiny that she would have endured had she’d been born in 1993 as opposed to 1975.

In the March issue of Vogue, Drew’s advice to the seemingly endless string of young actresses entering rehab was, “If you don’t pull it together for yourself, no one else will.”

But is that something that you can do on your own? And at such a young age?

More and more young celebrities have careers that span multiple industries. The Olsen twins aren’t the norm, but between their production company, Dualstar, their clothing line and their acting careers, there are quite a few people whose livelihood is dependant on those girls. And this was before they were even 18.

That responsibility coupled with the lack of privacy – yeah, I can almost see why they’d turn to partying or whatever else in order to blow off steam. And they have the money and connections to get whatever they want. Before they have had the opportunity to discover who they are, young celebs have to fit a mold that is created by their careers and by the media.

Actress Amanda Bynes, who is 20, has a different perspective: “You have to have strong people around you.”

Between the family that depends on your career in order to support them (like Britney Spears), the LA scene (where Lindsey Lohan was often seen before she was 21), and the scores of people that these young stars employ, how can they pull themselves together when there is so much trying to pull them apart?

It seems that Hollywood has accepted the party-to-rehab cycle; but what about the more serious issues that may be lurking underneath? They almost don’t seem human to us – but their fame is so isolating and potentially dangerous.

“When someone has accelerated development, there are usually emotional and psychological deficits that become apparent later. If they grew up around adults who never recognized that they were dealing with a developing person, the result can be a sense of self that is based on what others think of them.”

And then I thought about it more…can you imagine your teens and early 20s documented? All of it? You hook up with someone and it’s splashed across the internet the next day on numerous blogs where faceless strangers comment relentlessly?

Or someone that you love dies and not only is every minute of their death reported on (inaccurately or not), but your grief is documented?

Your drunkest of antics caught by rabid photographers and fans to be streamed on TMZ within hours. A guy that you hook up with reports every detail of your body and your sex to the tabloids.

I wonder if we’ll be the first generation that is rendered incapable of turning out an actress with the chance to become the equivalent of Meryl Streep. Young actresses know that their time is so very limited. They don’t cultivate what little talent they have – they turn everything outward.

We have collective ADD when it comes to our celeb gossip – do they do what they do so that even if their body of work is lacking and forgettable that at least their actions will always keep them fresh in our minds? Or do I make it out to be more of a game than it really is?

After all of that, I can say that I think that some of these young famous people deserve whatever happens to them and the some really ought be given a second or third chance at success, but it’s entirely based on their level of talent as to whether they get my sympathy or not. If Scarlett Johanssen fell apart, then I’d silently cheer on her recovery. Tara Reid – yeah, I’m not on her team.

So I’ve posed a lot of questions because I can’t quite answer all of them myself, but after really breaking it down, I don’t know if I hate those kids as much as I initially thought.

If Young Hollywood wants to be sluts and douchebags, let ‘em. Maybe someday soon they’ll flush themselves out and finally make room for some actual talent to come through.

Ashlee Simpson seems ready and willing to help with that massive flush each and every time she makes a public appearance. Take, for example, her little snafu today at a DC radio station.

Insisting that his client was “simply just tired”, a representative for the younger Simpson sibling defended her slurred and loopy guest appearance on this morning’s Hot 99.5’s Kane In The Morning show.

“Ashlee was absolutely not intoxicated this morning on Hot 99.5”, her representative whines. “She has been working extremely hard traveling across the country to promote her upcoming new album by performing at night and waking up very early the next day to do radio interviews in the morning – like any of us would be – she was simply just tired.”

I love the “I was tired” excuse. It’s so the opposite of believable.

Look, people. When I’m exhausted, I’m bitchy, I’m monosyllabic, and I put my eyeliner on crooked. I don’t say bizarre things and slur my words. Exhaustion does not make you SLUR YOUR WORDS. It makes you say, “I’m sorry, I’m really tired this morning, give me a second to collect my thoughts.”

You know what DOES make you slur your words though? Liquor. Too much of it. Oh yeah, and pills. Well, those things and having a stroke—but I mean, Ashlee didn’t have a stroke.

She may, however, have been really f&*cking hungover.

Just say it like it is, Young Hollywood: “I’m young, I’m rich, no one tells me what to do. So I got ass-backwards drunk the night before a big radio interview. Who cares? Let’s talk about how awesome I am.”

At least you’d be telling the truth.

Considering that every episode of The Hills includes Heidi drinking at some Hollywood hot-spot, it came as quite a surprise to me to find out she wasn’t yet 21. But, alas, last night was the big two-one for Ms. Montag. And what did she do to celebrate the big event? Why, spend the evening with the one and only person in California that is still speaking to her: Spencer.

I can’t imagine a worse way to spend my birthday – besides the ridiculously sexy Chanel bag, of course – than dining with Spencer Pratt while he plays with his iPhone in a hideous dress that makes me resemble the left-overs of the entire meal my anorexic body couldn’t handle. But who am I to judge? To each their own.

It is not like Heidi had a choice; even if she were still friends with Lauren (or anyone, for that matter) she would not have been able to celebrate with Heidi because everyone who was anyone was at the Young Hollywood party. Which, by the way, LC and Whitney rocked. Way to handle a large group of obscure young “celebrities” and Hilary Duff, ladies!

And while the party was super chic and fabulous, I found the whole thing so strange, considering these days LC and Whitney would definitely be two of the guests at the party (with front row tickets, totally!) and not the people with the ear buds in running the show. Is this one of the show’s fatal flaws and further evidence that the whole thing is scripted?

But before we debate that – even though we all know deep down but absolutely refuse to admit that this can’t possibly be real – we must not forget about Audrina and Justin “My Hair is Officially Turning into Dreadlocks” Bobby. How much did it make you want to puke when they roll into the concert in matching leather jackets? Almost the worst thing ever until the camera pulls back and you realize that JB’s capri/combat boot combination. And did anyone else notice when he stepped away from the bar at the after party only to come back acting a little stranger than normal?

Could it be? Was Mr. Justin taking lines in the bathroom? I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything….Wait. Of course I do. Justin Bobby is a total drug user. He couldn’t even hold a coherent conversation when he returned. It was like listening to Britney’s interview with Ryan Seacrest.

Band Dude: What’s the story with you and Audrina?

Justin Bobby: Yeah. She’s really good.

Band Dude: Are you 2 hot and heavy?

Justin Bobby: Yeah. She’s really good.

Band Dude: Who told you those pants looked good with those boots. Or at all?

Justin Bobby: Yeah. She’s really good.

We’ll see how everything pans out next week. I hope it includes an intervention and a trip for Justin Bobby to the Cirque lodge. If I had my way, next week would be some sort of crossover episode with JB going on What Not To Wear.
