In Our Makeup Bag: My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke

Is it just me or is there another “revolutionary” new makeup product introduced every freaking day?! Just walking into Ulta or Sephora (or even Walgreens!) sends many chicas into fits of hysteria, reaching for the nearest brown bag to regulate their breathing. It’s all so overwhelming.

So how can you know which product – among the sea of thousands – is the best? Which does what you need it to do? Which ones are worth the extra money? Let me help. I don’t know every beauty product out there, but I’ve tested a lot of them and I’ll let you know which are worth the money and which are not.

What it is: My Smokey Classics Palette by Lauren Luke

Why this should be in your bag: If you’ve never heard of Lauren Luke, listen up! She got her start by posting makeup tutorials and is now the 2nd most popular Youtube user in all of the UK! Because of her popularity and appeal, Lauren decided to create a line of makeup palettes for real women, one of which I will be reviewing today. After watching her videos, I can truly say she is a doll and seems like such a sweet, genuine person. I’m so happy to have this chance to support Lauren through this review and encourage everyone to get to know her better by watching her Youtube videos here.

Palettes are one of my favorite makeup indulgences. Not only are the complimentary colors so fun to play with, they are super functional and travel like a dream. And the smokey eye is a classic, stylish look that every woman can pull off. Whether you make it lighter for daytime or more intense for a night on the town, the colors in this palette are perfect and all you need on a weekend getaway (seriously – I tested this on my recent trip to Toronto!).

How to use it: Lauren has made a video to go along with each of her palettes. Her “My Smokey Classics” video can be seen here, which is what I followed to achieve my look. Start off by applying one of the two primer colors all over your eyelids. Then, sweep on the largest eyeshadow in the palette and, my favorite color, Antique Pewter on the eyelid and past the crease. Highlight your browbone with Cashmere Cream and apply Twilight Ash in your crease and blend, blend, blend! Finish off your eyes by using a slanted eyeliner brush and applying the liner in Raven Black on top and bottom lashlines. You can also add mascara.

Next, buff the blush, Peach Glow, on the apples of your cheeks and up to your hairline. Finish off with one of two lip colors, Plumberry and Cranberry Stain, or mix them for something different! Gorgeous!

Spend the cash or simply pass? Like I said earlier, I’m officially a huge fan of Lauren Luke and her palettes. The color selection is fabulous and I truly feel like the combinations are endless. $37 for an entire makeup look (sans mascara and brushes) is pretty darn good, especially one as versatile as this. You also receive a separate gloss with the palette, so you can make your lips shine after applying the color! The quality of the products is also exceptional; they are all creamy, long-lasting and blend beautifully. I think I would compare the consistency of the shadows to Stila, a cult favorite. This palette is perfect for traveling and everyday use, so I say spend! Lauren Luke has really hit it out the park with this one and I can’t wait to tell everyone that they NEED it!

Thank you, Lauren, for providing the girls of the world with real makeup from a real woman! You’re an inspiration and I can’t wait to see you succeed!

Available here and from Sephora.
