In Our Makeup Bag: Illamasqua Powder Blusher

Is it just me or is there another “revolutionary” new makeup product introduced every freaking day?! Just walking into Ulta or Sephora (or even Walgreens!) sends many chicas into fits of hysteria, reaching for the nearest brown bag to regulate their breathing. It’s all so overwhelming.

So how can you know which product – among the sea of thousands – is the best? Which does what you need it to do? Which ones are worth the extra money? Let me help. I don’t know every beauty product out there, but I’ve tested a lot of them and I’ll let you know which are worth the money and which are not.

What it is: Illamasqua Powder Blush in Tremble

Why this should be in your bag: Pronounced ill-a-mask-a, this new English makeup brand is quickly taking the industry by storm. High-quality products and interesting marketing campaigns keep consumers on their toes and guarantee the Illamasqua brand a long-life. Everything I’ve tried from this brand has been AMAZING, but the Powder Blusher has to be my absolute favorite. In the pan, it doesn’t look like much, but trust me, it looks unreal on your cheeks. I honestly opened it up and almost groaned in disappointment at the matte pink. However, it’s not at all chalky or powdery; it’s super finely-milled and melts into your skin like a cream blush. A little goes a long way, but it’s buildable and therefore, versatile. I tested this out in Tremble, described as a “light, warm pink.”

(Left: swatched heavily. Right: blended.)

How to use it:

Tremble is the perfect everyday pink for fair-skinned gals. Start by applying your regular “face,” including moisturizer, foundation, concealer, etc. I use a blush brush from Sigma to apply the blusher. Start by smiling at yourself in the mirror. Seriously, this is the best way to apply blush accurately! Keep smiling while you buff the blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend up, into the hairline. I usually apply one layer, then see if I want to intensify my look once I’ve done my eyes and lips. Like I said, a little goes a long way and it’s pretty easy to overdo it with such a pigmented product. Since the blush is matte, I often follow up with a powder or liquid highlight!

CC Rating: A+

Illamasqua Powder Blusher is without a doubt my new favorite blush. The product is absolutely brilliant (as the Brits would say!) and leaves me looking gorgeous. Seriously, the first day I wore this all of my friends asked me why I looked so awake and fresh. It was like in a movie; everyone asking if I’d dyed my hair or gotten some extra-good news. I’ve never had that happen with a product before, but let me tell you, it felt good!

The color range is huge, meaning that every girl will be able to find one to suit her and make her glow. As we speak, I’m loading my Sephora shopping cart with a caramel and coral to round out my collection. The blushes run a bit pricey compared to MAC ($24 for 0.14 oz), but really, can you put a price on this kind of makeover?!

A major self-esteem boost packaged in a blush? I’ll take one in every color, please!
