[Is it just me or is there another “revolutionary” new makeup product introduced every freaking day?! Just walking into Ulta or Sephora (or even Walgreens!) sends many chicas into fits of hysteria, reaching for the nearest brown bag to regulate their breathing. It’s all so overwhelming. So how can you know which product – among the sea of thousands – is the best? Which does what you need it to do? Which ones are worth the extra money? Let me help. I don’t know every beauty product out there, but I’ve tested a lot of them and I’ll let you know which are worth the money and which are not.]

What it is: NYX Single Eyeshadow in Champagne and Iced Mocha
Why this should be in your bag: Eyeshadow is the perfect way to highlight a gorgeous set of peepers or just enhance your look. It instantly steps-up your makeup and gives you a little bit more “oomph”! I find wearers of eyeshadow are usually split into two categories: ones who stick to neutrals and ones who love colors. I’m personally more of a neutral kind of gal, so my eyeshadow drawer is overflowing with all sorts of taupes, browns and bronzes. Even though neutrals sound boring, they are so far from it.
Also, I find slight variations in neutral colors can really change my look, meaning that I like to have LOTS on hand. That’s why I was so happy to come upon a great drugstore brand like NYX! I picked out two of my favorite neutral shades from NYX: Iced Mocha and Champagne. (PS. Iced Mocha is a pretty great MAC Satin Taupe dupe!)

How to use it:
Iced Mocha is a shimmering taupe, while Champagne is a frosty beige, and together, they create a beautiful eye-look. I always recommend starting out with an eyeshadow primer to enhance the color and really make it last. Next, using a shader brush, apply Iced Mocha to your eyelid. If you want to step up the intensity, pack-on the shadow in your outer “v” to create depth. Next, using a less-rigid brush, dust Champagne on your inner corner and as a highlight, up to your brow-bone. Voila – a great, neutral eye using only 2 shadows!

CC Rating: A+
NYX Single Eyeshadows are by far the most impressive drugstore brand out there. With great pigmentation and a color selection that rivals MAC, you’re bound to find something to suit your needs. The shadows also range from $3-$6 for 0.07oz, while MAC shadows sell for $14.50 for 0.05oz. If I’m interested in a bright MAC shadow that I know I won’t wear often, I usually go for the NYX substitute and am always happy. NYX shadows are great for the college gal on a budget or who just likes to experiment!
