Guys Who Rock: Trevor Eckman a.k.a. "Bagginz"

Boys, boys, boys. Here at CollegeCandy, we love them. A lot. And being that we have a lot of time on our hands to search for them on the web, we thought we’d use it to our advantage and yours and bring you a little eye candy that not only makes us drool but also tugs at our heartstrings. So here’s your chance to meet some of the most talented guys in the world…who rock. Like, for real. (They’re musicians, people.)
Name: Trevor Eckman
Age: 20
Location: Rochester, NY
Type of Music: Rap
Why He Rocks: Trevor not only whips out a beat that you won’t be able to get out of your head for days, but he keeps up a GPA of 3.9 while doing it. Smart and sexy? We’ll take that any day.
What’s the story behind the name “Bagginz”?
Not too much of a story, just a childhood nickname that kinda stuck with me when I recently started rapping. It’s just a weird name that I figured nobody would forget whether they wanted to or not.
How did you start rapping?
I guess you could say I started rapping when I was in 10th grade when I spit my first drunken freestyle on SB at Myrtle Beach. Someone recorded it and in the morning we were like, ‘woah that’s sorta nice.’ So then occasionally I would freestyle here and there up until my sophomore year of college (last year) when it hit me that I didn’t want to have to wake up every morning with the same old 9 to 5… Maybe I should write some of it down? So here I am a year later.
Where does the inspiration for your lyrics come from?
The inspiration for my lyrics comes from what’s going on in my life at the time I write the song. I use music as a chance to express my emotions so when I’m happy, I’m gonna talk about all the cool stuff I’m thankful for that has been happening, and when I’m mad I like to vent and express what’s been bothering me. Hip hop is just a really cool hobby to take up, because for someone like me who wears his emotions on his sleeve, it gives me an outlet to turn to when I have stuff to get off my chest.
I am also just still a kid at heart who has seen a lot of movies, watched a lot of sports, been to a lot of parties, and chilled with a lot of beautiful women… so naturally my lyrics will reflect that. I haven’t been exposed to much violence or poverty, so I don’t talk about it. Simple as that.
What goes through your mind when you’re on stage performing?
Honestly, I’m just trying to bring as much energy to the show as possible. I’m usually just praying everybody is having a dope time and just enjoying the experience. There is nothing like standing in front of a sold out crowd when you know they came to see you. It’s a blessing.
Now some questions for the ladies of CollegeCandy…
What’s your most embarrassing moment?
Oh boy, well there was this girl I sorta had feelings for and I saw her as I was running from my car into class (had 2 minutes to get there). While I was waving to her I completely didn’t see the road curb and wiped out. Hard. Into the tables set up outside of the campus Starbucks. Mad people, including her, saw it, except it wasn’t one of those laughing at someone when they fall. I wiped out ridiculous and it looked like I died. I’ll never forget hearing people yelling ‘Oh my God, call 911’ and like sprinting towards me to make sure I was okay. I don’t know if I was just so adrenaline-filled from embarrassment, but I somehow shook it fast and ran away. Only me, man I swear….
What’s your ideal girl?
My ideal girl just has to be funny. Humor trumps looks times a trillion to me. You can be the sexiest broad in the world but if you can’t keep me laughing I’m gonna get bored real fast. Also, intelligence is important… if everything I say flies over your head, that’s mad annoying.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a girl?
My girlfriend in 11th grade wrote this crazy meaningful entry in my yearbook and gave it to me to read before she left for Europe. I really liked her family and whatnot so on the day they came back I had left roses and a sign on the garage door welcoming her home. I also gave her, her yearbook back with my special end of the year note. Not super romantic but I thought it was cute. Cheesy or cute? You be the judge.
What are your hobbies besides performing?
I’m a huge sports junkie. I played varsity baseball in high school and just about every other sport growing up. So now that I’m twenty and don’t really play many sports anymore, following my favorite teams is my thing. The Buffalo Bills, SU Basketball, the Buffalo Sabres, and obviously UB Football and Basketball. Those are my squads.
