7 Quotes to Live By…and 1 That's Terrible [This Post Grad Life]

In high school, I kept a notebook full of quotes. Seriously. It’s in my closet at my parents’ house now, completely chock-full of the cheesiest quotes I could get my over-hormonal 16-year-old hands on. Need an example of one? Luckily, I live at home and have easy access to the notebook. Allow me to share some of the highlights…
I walk the path of life to my own rhythm. My own beat. If you don’t like it, step off and find your own damn song!
Gross, right? 100%.
While the ones in my notebook aren’t especially helpful today, I can still appreciate the feel-good vibes a particularly great quote can bestow upon you. Lately I’ve been looking around collecting a new set of inspirational words to look to for guidance and inspiration. I haven’t changed much since high school but I’ve definitely learned a few more lessons along the way to get me out of the “march to the beat of your OWN drum, betch!” movement.
So instead of decorating my own notebook, I’ve turned to the lovely pages of CollegeCandy to stack up my favorite (post-grad) helpful quotes. If you’re snuggled up on your bed feeling slightly down, read over these and find your new mantra. We can all learn a lesson somewhere, right?
(I’m totally going to get made fun of for this.)
And YES OF COURSE I got these all from Pinterest. Sue me.
“Karma’s only a bitch if you are.”
Seriously, stop being such a betch-case and the world will reward you.
“You can never be overdressed or over-educated.”
Just throw on the structured dress, the tights, the professional pumps and call it a day. No one is going to throw you a side glance if you look absolutely put together. Oh, and those loans you keep complaining about? Go cuddle with your Master’s Degree.
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Stop comparing yourself to the girl who can wear white leggings and actually pull it off. Stop comparing yourself to Angelina Jolie and/or Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber‘s relationship. . .(wait, nobody does that but me?) True happiness comes from focusing on yourself.
“Always keep a bottle of champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes, the special occasion is having a bottle of champagne in the fridge!” -Hester Browne
Life is something to be celebrated all in itself, so why need an excuse to pop bottles!?
“Expectation is the root of all heartache.” -Shakespeare¬†
If you expect less and hope for the best, you will always be happy. Shakespeare knows everything, honestly.
“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” -Rumi
More bittersweet words have never been spoken. Close your eyes for a moment, find that golden nugget of what you truly love and go for it.
“It’s important to laugh. Laugh loudly, laugh often and most importantly, laugh at yourself.” –Chelsea Handler
Preach it, girl!
Ok, now it’s your turn to go totally high school on everyone. What is your number one quote to live by?
