Tuffy Luv Sez: Better Safe Than Herpes!!!

Dear Tuffy Luv,
I’m a virgin but my boyfriend and I have been doing oral. We both do it, so it’s going good but I just want to make sure. I can’t get pregnant from oral?
Virgin Except For Oral
Dear Virgin Except For Oral,
First of all, good for you, girl, for making sure you get what you give!!! It makes me SO ANGRY when girls write in that their boyfriends won’t go down on them. THAT PISSES AUNT TUFFY THE FLOOP OFF!!! If you give him oral, HE MUST GIVE YOU ORAL. Get it? Got it?! Good.
Now that that’s over with–and, again, go girl!–let’s answer your actual question, shall we? No, you can’t get pregnant from oral sex. HOWEVER. You can totally get STDs.
So, like, here’s the deal. You have to practice safer sex. That means condoms EVERY time, even with oral. I mean, oral sex is…SEX. Got it?! (Here’s a little video, btw, that shows you how to put on a condom. Can’t hurt to buff up on the basics, right?)
According to Planned Parenthood, in terms of protecting yourself and your partner during oral sex, here’s how you doos and what you doos:
“Dental dams are small, thin, square pieces of latex used to protect the throat during certain kinds of dental work. They can also be placed on the vulva or the anus when the mouth, lips, or tongue are used to sexually arouse a partner. Like the condom, dams keep partners’ body fluids out of each other’s bodies. They also prevent skin-to-skin contact. A special kind of dam, the Sheer Glyde dam, has been approved by the FDA especially for safer sex. Like dental dams, Sheer Glyde dams are available online, in some drugstores, and at many Planned Parenthood health centers.
If Sheer Glyde dams or dental dams aren’t handy, you can use plastic wrap or a cut-open condom.”
You dig? NEVER have unprotected oral sex. You can get herpes. You can get hepatitis B. You can get syphilis. You can even get HIV. It’s seriously dangerous to practice any kind of sexual activity involving any bodily fluids (including saliva, including semen, including everything, okay?!) WITHOUT using protection.
Even if your guy swears up and down to you that he’s been tested, you MUST MUST MUST be extra safe. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 out of every 6 people between 14 and 49 have herpes. 1 OUT OF EVERY 6!!! You think they got that way because everyone was always telling the truth?!
So, no, you can’t get pregnant, but, yes, you better flooping use protection.
Hearts & Skulls,
Tuffy Luv
