Life According To Seasonal Lattes [Chronicles Of The City]

There are few things that make me happier than seasonal lattes. Tell me when you tasted a Pumpkin Spice Latte that you didn’t want to scream you loved it from the rooftops. Tell me that you can resist a Gingerbread Latte or Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Seasonal lattes are my kryptonite, but I started thinking about how they relate to life. They are cups of joy and wonder that represent so much more than coffee blended with delicious flavoring.

Adding flavors to your coffee is just like dressing up extra special for the day. Or putting on a coat of red lipstick. Or wearing those shoes that you love even though they’re super fancy. Seasonal lattes are that little indulgence that will make your heart sparkle for a minute. They can turn a bad day around and warm your hands (and soul) up on a cold one.

Seasonal lattes also represent change. You know it’s officially fall when those Pumpkin Spices hit your local Starbucks. When the red cups pop up, it’s a time for cheer and the countdown to Thanksgiving and holidays. They’re little happy markers in the calendar. But the switch happens so quickly, no?

I feel like it was only last week that I was picking up my first fall drink, and now I’m snuggled up with a holiday one. Things in life change just as quickly, if not more so, as the Starbucks drink menu. The decision to move to New York was a fast one, and I only had a few weeks to pack my life into a metaphorical to-go cup and ship out. And within a few months of being here, I’ve gone from a latte with a few extra shots to one filled with flavors and spice and all kinds of additions.

If you’re feeling down about whatever, throw on a pair of pumps and lipstick, strut on down to your coffee shop, and pick up a holiday drink. If you need to pour some Kahlua or peppermint Schnapps in there, no one’s judging you.
