How Celebs Celebrated International Women’s Day [Lady Bits]

A few weeks ago, Lady Bits brought you a list of some awesome celebs who aren’t afraid to use the “F” word – feminism. Recently, some of those celebs and others took to Twitter to celebrate women. Why? Well, they don’t really need a reason, but it happened to be a special day. Last Friday, March 8, was International Women’s Day.

In case you missed it, International Women’s Day is celebrated every year. In some countries it’s even a national holiday. The day of honor has been observed since the early 1900s, a time of industrialization, booming population growth, and changes for women all over the world. If you ask me, we should celebrate women and their achievements and talk about the issues facing women every day. But International Women’s Day is a great opportunity for us to reflect on how far women have come toward equality, how far we have to go, and to thank some of the awesome women in our lives.

Apparently, celebs agree, and many of them took to Twitter to celebrate the holiday. Check it out.

Garnet is a student at Columbia University in New York City. She is “that person” who starts dancing at a party when everyone else is standing around, and if there were a Facebook stalking Olympics, she would be a gold medalist. She also loves cheesy 90s music, and almost died of happiness when Vanilla Ice retweeted her. Once. Follow her on Twitter @garnethenderson.
