The White House Addresses Jay-Z’s New Rap, Because Obvi It’s Official Biz

I’m a big fan of seeing videos of press conferences inside the White House briefing rooms. Maybe its my love of the show 16oo Penn and its press secretary, Marshall (or rather it was my love because, sigh NBC, you cancelled it). And every now and then, it’s pretty awesome to see the conversation and question stray away from typical politics.

President Obama’s press secretary, Jay Carney, had to respond to a bit of different kind of question recently. He addressed Jay-Z‘s recent song “Open Letter” and its lyric, “boy from the hood but got White House clearance.” The song was a response to the controversy involving his recent trip to Cuba with wife Beyoncé, and also features the lyric, “Obama said ‘Chill, you’re going to get me impeached’/ You don’t need this shit anyway, chill with me on the beach.”

After having a reporter question him about the lyrics, Carney responded by saying that Obama had no contact with Jay-Z about his trip to Cuba. Check out the video below to see his full response! My personal favorite part: “I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury.”
