While it’s true that we should be considered innocent until proven guilty, I find it interesting that people have already formed their opinions about a case that has not been tried and about people whose names have not been revealed. We covered this story before about Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year-old girl who was raped by four boys when she was 15 and dealt with aggressive bullying that continued for two years because her rapists photographed the assault and shared the pictures around school. Rehteah recently commit suicide due to the bullying. Now members of her community have come out in support of the four boys despite their names being withheld because they are minors.
The community has created pink posters that say, “Speak the truth. There’s two sides to every story. Listen before you judge. The truth will come out. Stay strong and support the boys.” Listening to the truth isn’t arbitrarily deciding her alleged rapists are innocent. As Jezebel pointed out, it would be great if we could hear two sides but unfortunately the sexual assault was so traumatic we’ll never get to hear Rehtaeh’s side.
• So Miley and Liam aren’t getting married any time soon if ever.
“They want to figure out their life together before they get married,” says the source, who adds they originally wanted to tie the knot this summer.”
Miley isn’t even legally old enough to drink yet, so it is a good idea to wait. After all, if you’re going to spend the rest of your life with that person anyway, then what’s the rush?
