I feel like a new diet is popping up every day. One week I can’t eat carbs, the next week all I’m supposed to eat are carbs. I can’t keep up. Recently, a new diet has come to join the ranks of the hundreds of fad diets that are already out there. This new diet requires that users stick 2/3 of a stick of butter in their coffee. Apparently it promotes weight loss and gives you more energy. The concoction is called Bulletproof Coffee.
David Asprey, the creator of Bulletproof Coffee, says that he discovered the power of this drink on the top of Mt. Kailash in Tibet. He says that once he made it up the mountain and into the guest house he drank a cup of yak butter tea and was rejuvenated. From there, he discovered the power of butter blended drinks.
Some doctors and health experts are saying that Bulletproof Coffee actually promotes weight gain and the energy boost could be due to a placebo effect.
Personally, I don’t think that adding a stick of butter to my coffee is going to help me do any slimming down. As for giving me more energy, duh. Of course adding nearly an entire stick of butter into a caffeinated drink is going to result in an initial boost of energy. That’s like downing half a bag of sugar and then being surprised when you can’t sit still.
And this guy says he thought of the idea because it refreshed him when he was on top of a mountain? Of course it did! When you are in -10 degree weather and exhausted, they could hand you a hot cup of urine and you would be insisting that it had magical rejuvenation powers.
I’m sure a lot of people are excited to start drinking this high calorie concoction instead of, let’s say, working out. Let me know how that works for you. As for me, I don’t think I’ll be dumping sticks of butter in my coffee anytime soon.
