The 8 Unavoidable Stages of Losing Your Keys When You Live in Off-Campus Housing

Hi, I’m Ariana and I live in a “luxury apartment community.” The slogan is literally “Live at the Point.” It’s all kind of awkward. When you move in, the nice people at the leasing office give you a bunch of stuff, the most important of them being your keys. They say, “These keys are $240. Don’t lose them.” In that moment, I knew I was going to lose them.

There was no way I wasn’t going to lose them. I haven’t even had keys since the end of my sophomore year. Last year I lived in a sorority house and now I have an apartment for the first time ever. No pressure.

The self fulfilling prophecy of my insanely expensive keys has occurred. Obviously, I was the first person in the whole building to go ask for new keys. It sucks as much as you would expect and unfortunately, I couldn’t just go make a copy at Home Depot. Luxury apartment community equals much more official/complicated procedures. But at least I get to share the whole experience with you. So, when you lose your keys (that are hopefully not $240) you’ll know that you’re not alone. We’re all lovable f***ups at heart.

Ariana Romero is a senior at Syracuse University. She’ll be sharing all of her apartment misadventures with you this year! Don’t worry, there will be numerous. Follow her on Twitter @_ArianaRomero where she mostly talks about Game of Thrones Robb Stark.
