It’s that time of year again–midterm season. The excitement of the new semester is beginning to die down and it’s time for your teachers to call you out on your
b.s. excuses. If you haven’t cracked open a book, it will show. As the old saying goes, “What is done in the dark, will come to the light.” Just try not to be caught in that light with a big crimson F on your exams.
I have been studying a little bit every night and believe me, I’m starting to feel like my brain is turning into mush. I couldn’t do these study sessions without an energy drink and a little bit of music. It’s always so weird how study habits vary from student to student. I have friends who can literally listen to anything, at any volume and still get 100% of their work completed. Me on the other hand, can listen to almost anything, but the volume has to be super chill. If it’s a song or album I care for too much than it’s almost a guarantee that no work will be done. I will be too busy lip syncing or trying to hit notes that I am in no shape or form able to reach.
Want to know the biggest thing that gets me through studying for midterms? A dance break. Completely put down your pen and paper. Play an up tempo song and grab your roommate, because chances are she’ll need a dance break too. All you have to do is dance, with 100% of your energy for the entire song. As the song fades out, you shake it off and channel back to your inner student. I’m not sure I could have gotten through these four years without them. Try it. It’ll change your life.
Below I’ve selected over 30 songs suited to get you out of the monotony that can be midterm season. Think you can twerk as well as Miley? I’ve got something for that. Fell in love with Drake‘s Nothing Was The Same? I’ve got something for that. Or, if you feel like getting a little nostalgic, I definitely have something for that.
