5 Things That Are Distracting You From Midterm Studying

It’s midterm season, you guys. Start crying. Start hyperventilating. Start racking up on pizza bagels and 5-hour energy because this one is going to be a doozy. There’s nothing like spending 14 hours at the library only to realize you actually studied for about twenty minutes.  It’s not that you don’t want to study, it’s that something is preventing you from studying, possibly that thing is life, however it is most likely just the internet. Let the nervous breakdown begin.

Social Media

You just keep checking and keep checking and keep checking Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Did someone @ reply me? Did Rihanna Instagram something raunchy? I need to communicate how bored I am and how I am studying right now in 140 characters! No one is @ replying you and if they are, it is not an emergency. Everything on the internet will be there when you are done studying, remember the internet is FOREVER. So NO NUDES, guys.

Your Phone

Your phone has your email, texting and the whole entire internet on it—the whole damn thing. Turn it off. No one is texting you. Nothing is that important. (Now, I know for some of you something is that important but for most of you it’s not!). You may have isolated yourself, may have carved out your own private library nook but with the internet and phones you will always have access to your friends. Your friends are always with youyou are never alone and while that is incredible, you can spend a few hours without communicating, right? Maybe. Let’s hope so.

Your Internship

A lot of people don’t think of this or realize this but these days, since employers don’t actually want to hire anybody, an internship can feel like a real job. I’ve certainly experienced that: having all the same tasks and responsibilities of an actual employee while going to school and working part-time—that’s major stress! Your teachers and paid employer may not be willing to cut you some slack but internships are typically very understanding of your workload. If you simply can’t find the time to study because your internship is keeping you busy ask for time off because you have midterms. 9 out of 10 times you’ll get that time off without anyone getting upset about it.

Your Boo

You want to study but your honey goes to another school, has a different major, has a different work load and just doesn’t have midterms the same time as you. You try to snuggle up with a good book and he/she tries to snuggle up on your booty. Sorry, your relationship isn’t going to be destroyed if you spend a week apart or ask them to step off because you have shit to do. If you do end up breaking up because of that then you probably shouldn’t have been together anyway.

Your Guilty Conscience

You don’t study so you freak out about not studying, then you get overwhelmed because you haven’t studied; typical procrastination cycle of misery. Eventually enough time will elapse where you either have to study or just won’t do it all. Don’t let this happen, accept that you are kind of a psychopath about these things and any time you feel guilty immediately study, even if it is just for a few minutes. Go study!
