7 DIY Winter Skincare Recipes That Will Keep You Moisturized All Season Long


So, confession time, I have really dry skin. My elbows get really disgustingly ashy brown in the winter and it feels like I’m putting on chap-stick and body lotion literally every 10-15 minutes. I dread winter for my skin’s sake. I also blame my mother. In any case, being cursed with this terribly dry skin has led me to be extra cautious about skincare during the wintertime. If I can prevent — or help — any sort of dryness, I’m going to.

I live in Nebraska, so I don’t have a Lush or other skincare store within driving distance of my house, so I’ve had to resort to some DIY skincare remedies for the wintertime. The really awesome thing about all of these products is that you probably have most of their ingredients just lying around your house waiting to be used! I love the idea of re-purposing products I already have, and a lot of these skin care products are made from natural ingredients which are SO MUCH BETTER for your face and skin.

DIY Lip Products

1. DIY Lip Scrub

Who else uses tube upon tube of chapstick, or my personal favorite EOS Lip Balm? I know I’m not the only one. Using a lip scrub removes all the nasty crusties on your lips and makes them feel like you could do some serious smooching. 2. Lip Balm

Look, like I said before, I’m always running on empty with my lip balms or I’m losing them. Those tiny tubes can not realistically make it through the entire winter. But with this DIY lip balm, you have plenty AND it smells like peppermint. It’s a win-win. See the full recipe here!

3. Homemade Pumpkin Mask

I know that Halloween is over, but pumpkins are still totally in season and surprisingly, pumpkins are great on your face. 4. Avocado Mask

Right?! This delicious food makes the perfect face mask for dry flaky skin. I’ve been buying avocados by the dozen and using half for some yummy chicken wraps and the other half on my face. You know all those vitamins and stuff that are good for you when you eat the avocado, well they’re also good for your face. Here’s the recipe I use.

5. Cultured Milk Mask

Sounds disgusting, but this is perfect for protecting your skin against the frigid winter air. It also rejuvenates the pH balance in your skin which will get rid of any winter redness and make you look fresh. Nothing like feeling exhausted and looking exhausted right around finals week. Hands get pooped on the most when it comes to subzero temperatures, and I know you’re probably sick of your hands being in actual pain during the winter.
