Tips To De-stress and Keep Calm During Finals Week Hump Day

It’s finals week hump day and all you bbs are doing great. Just hang in there and do your best, that’s all your mama ever wanted you to do. If you’re only half way through finals, things can feel a little intense at this point. You’re probably exhausted, sleep-deprived and majorly stressed out. Here are a few things you can do to keep your cool in the midst of a very intense week of test taking, studying, and maybe even packing.

1. Stay Healthy: Check out our list of brain foods that will keep you focused, energetic and sharp. You’ve come this far, you don’t want to crash from overloading on caffeine or carbs. The last thing you want is to sleep through that alarm. Get a good nights sleep: no matter what. That means 6 to 8 hours. Eat a good meal. Keep caffeine consumption to the hours before 3PM. Eat a balanced dinner.

2. Take some alone time: Go for a walk, take a nap or a nice long shower. It’s important that for just a few moments you get away from the palpable stress around you. Everyone is anxious and whether you are aware of it or not, it will make you anxious too. You need silence and escape.

3. Take a break to do something fun every few hours. Watch some Youtube videos, your favorite sitcom or grab lunch with friends. Resist the urge to talk or think about finals. Resist to urge to contemplate all the things you “should” be doing or “have to” do. Just have your fun time.

4. Move your body. You don’t have to do a full body workout but you do need to exert some energy. Working out releases calming endorphins that will put you in a good mood. Put those legs up against the wall and twerk. Run around the block. Punch your pillow a few times. Get it out. You need to get it out, girl!
