How to Style a Crop Top for Cold Weather

I love a good crop top. For some reason, I’ve been obsessed with them the past couple years and still come back for more. With a pair of high waisted jeans, they’re extremely flattering. They are a cute way to dress down a skirt or blazer. And the fitted bra-type styles are sexy without being sleazy when styled correctly. To many, this may seem like a seasonal garment, only appropriate for warm weather. But I, of course, beg to differ.

My Christmas Eve outfit is composed of a matching black sequined stop top and pencil skirt. Of course I’ll wear a fur coat and be inside most of the evening, making it totally appropriate. But what happens when you want to wear that crop top walking across campus, out with the girls and what have you? You just need to style it properly.

First of all, in freezing temps, you don’t want to wear the sheerest little thing you can find. Grab a crop top in a heavier fabric, like this velvet number, and pair it with high-waisted black denim jeans (no belly buttons!) for a look that’s cool and casual. Adding a bright blazer not only dresses up the look, it will keep your arms and torso warm. The best part about a crop top is you can accessorize with a belt, so make sure to find a cool one (we’re always partial to hardware). A toasty beanie and sturdy boots complete the look.
