We are pleased to announce that we’ve teamed up with one of our favorite astrologists (and talented yoga pro), Chani Nicholas, to bring you weekly horoscope readings. Check back each Monday to see what’s in the stars for your week!
Aries and Aries Rising
You got more action going on this holiday season than a Boxing Day Sale at Nordstrom’s (yes, I’m in Canada). No, but like, really. From here until January 1st it’s just kind of silly as your astrology is anything but subtle, gentle or unassuming. This works for you in many ways as it is also energetic, powerful and impactful, obvious, out there and public. It’s a really good (yet odd, due to the holidays) time for you to make some powerful strides at work and in your public life, or perhaps it’s time for you to recognize your own power in the world and to think about what the term means for you. Is power force? Is it the ability to make happen what you want to see happen? Is it humility? Is it kindness, beauty or dominance? Your true ambitions are rising to the surface, but who or what is trying to hold you back? Hint: Check yourself every time you feel an argument coming on or the desire to separate yourself from the person you are with. It’s also an especially interesting time to ask yourself why you want what you want. Understanding your motivation helps you manifest your ambitions faster, clarity brings speed.
Taurus and Taurus Rising
Life is only as interesting as what we are willing to learn from it. At this time, so much is revealing itself to you about what you are willing to see, able to see and open to seeing that I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s creating a shift in your values. By association, what you are able to attract into your life is also being restructured. I’d pay special attention to what “laws” you have been living under and how humane they may or may not be. The most important thing for you to focus on is reinventing your own personal “religion” and you may want to check out some of the recent speeches from Pope Francis for inspiration. More and more you’ll be able to see just how much you have cut yourself off from life because of your own misinformed ideas and misunderstandings due to heartbreak, insecurity and anxiety. As we move towards the end of the year you will move deeper into the understanding of the ways in which you have been holding yourself back and how you’ve been on a self-inflicted lockdown. It’s just no longer necessary to be held hostage by old translations of current material.
Gemini and Gemini Rising
Your ruling planet is finally changing signs, meaning that there will be less emphasis on what others are doing, not doing or might do and more emphasis on what you can let go of. In fact, from now until January 2nd there is such a deep purge for you that I want to caution you to take it slow; there’s no need to get rid of everything like, right now, but it is time to start to think about it. You would be well served to use some of your time off to clean out your closets and let go of any clutter that you can. On a deeper level, it’s the perfect time for you to look at what you have been enmeshed in for far too long, especially in regards to family situations that you have inherited. What resentments could you flush out of your system? What stories of rejection, loss and loneliness could you move on from? Sometimes ritually letting go of what has ailed us is the perfect solution to an age-old problem, because you really, really, really don’t need to be carrying around psychological baggage with you if you don’t have to. The other factor to your astrology has something to do with a reversal of fortune by means of using your magical powers of acceptance. Accepting people, places and things as they are, frees up to take care of ourselves. We can even be hypersensitive to others needs but it doesn’t mean that we have to accommodate them all.
Cancer and Cancer Rising
I want you to actively look for ways in which you inhibit love from happening and how you magnetize love (or the opposite) into your life. Someone called something I quoted the other week “trite”. Now, one could argue that what I quoted was a generalization but isn’t that true with almost everything? The older I get the more I realize that people and situations are so astoundingly complex that I am hard pressed to make any firm conclusions. Mostly, I realize over and over that what other folks do is just none of my business. But I also know that I wanted to, like a 3 year-old who has been slighted by a playmate in the sandbox, hit this person over the head with my shovel-and that’s on me. I was offended. How dare she call my work trite, why the fuck would I quote someTHING IF I THOUGHT…and that’s when I realized that is was time to take a deep breath and cancel the email response. Instead of sending some defensive response full of truly trite sentiments, I got really honest with myself and realized that I felt complete shame about being “wrong” in this strangers eyes. I want to be right all the time. I want to hide behind imperfectly crafted letters to you in the form of horoscopes, dammit I just want you to like me and if you don’t I want to hit you over the head with my shovel! But that’s just me, I’m interested in what kind of fascinating tidbits you come up with in regards to how you keep people out-cause I am sure that I am not alone on this one.
Leo and Leo Rising
To say that you are ready for a major overhaul in your day-to-day routines and your overall relationship to your body is an understatement. Aside from being an astrologer, I’m also a yoga therapist, which means that I use yoga to treat physiological ailments — but I also use the body as an entry point for healing trauma. I am always moved when people share with me how difficult it is for them to be in their bodies, starting a fitness routine for many is so much more than just going to the gym. When we are faced with our resistance to taking care of ourselves we are faced with so many of the reasons why we’ve had to abandon our bodies. It’s my belief that everything that we’ve ever experienced is stored in the body and our health reflects, in part, how we’ve been able to metabolize the events. Equally important is to see how we relate to health issues that arise and what kind of meaning we make out of them. This next little bit of time is here to help you bring consciousness to your daily routines and how they may impact your overall wellness. Learn what habits keep you down and then emancipate yourself from them.
Virgo and Virgo Rising
I’m currently en route, traveling through the land that most of my first love affairs happened in. I haven’t even reached my hometown and I am already flooded with feelings of old flames, unrequited love, desperate attempts and dreams of a happy life through the fantasy of True Love. Yep, I was that girl. I always joked that I moved away from this little mountain town because I had already dated everyone and their sister and while that was somewhat true, I was no different from any other kid here. We were wild teenagers on the loose, but we came from wild parents and we weren’t about to let them out-do us. Teenage years are full of passion run amuck and lust without self-love leaves one raw eventually. Passion without purpose gives one a hell of a hangover. So how do to deal with our yearnings, our cravings and that fiery inferno of creativity that we are all born with? How can we be constructive with our most precious of gifts- our energy so we don’t end up like a spun out teenager? This is the charge the universe has given you and the rewards will be great if you work with the questions.
Libra and Libra Rising
Bless them help me. Bless them, help me. Bless them and HELP ME! Should there be any undue tension that builds around the middle of this week with significant others this is your all-day mantra (given to me by a mentor). Obviously when we have conflict with another it’s so easy to focus on what’s wrong with them, and people can be hard to deal with no doubt, but if, like many teachings highlight, this life is just an illusion and all I’m supposed to do is play the game to the best of my ability, I’ll be dammed if I’m not going to pass this level because of your issues that have nothing to do with me. Take the time to look around at all the beautiful faces that surround you and see how all of the things that annoy you are actually things you have a hard time loving about yourself. Those family members that are sitting at your table, those amazing beings that you were born to be with (for multiple reasons that may be unknown to you now) are showing you what you need to see. Everything you need to learn about is to be found at home, with parents and other members of your tribe. Understanding this part of yourself is crucial because most of what you do in the world, most of your dreams and aspirations are born from your early childhood experiences. Your interactions and ability to process what happens when “home for the holidays” informs how you move through the world. It’s a treasure trove awaiting you, dive in but remember to come up for air when you need it.
Scorpio and Scorpio Rising
Nothing in my life has been as healing as writing has. In fact, writing has been a part of any healing modality that I have ever participated in, but more than that the act of writing weekly to you demands that I pay attention to the details of my daily life. I am constantly collecting data; tid-bits of information and moments of inspiration so that I have something to say to you that will be worth the time it takes you to read this (at the very least). As life becomes a little more full of movement for you, I want you to bring much more awareness to your relationship to your daily movements. What crosses your mind as you drive to work? What songs do you hear during the day that makes you reflect on a part of your past, long forgotten? How are all the little movements of your life, that would appear to be separate, actually linked? Something stirs in us when we are on the move, like a peripatetic meditation. Given the room, what rises to the surface when you are busy with an action that you can do without thinking about it? This kind of outlook also applies to siblings if you have them. We get so used to being with brothers and sisters that we take them for granted, we assume that the dynamic will be as it has always been, but this is a time when some of those patterns want to shift. You would benefit from some sort of meditative practice that allows you to set aside all you think you know about them so that you could come to a deeper understanding of who they could be outside of your frame of reference.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising
I’m visiting a family member who, unfortunately, is starting to lose a lot of his memory. He’s mostly in a kind of mental loop that seems to go something like this, “Where’s my wallet? I lost my wallet. They stole my wallet, you know they are always stealing my wallet those men that come into my window at night.” And then he finds his wallet in his back pocket, but there is no cash in it, so “they” must have stolen the money and brought back his wallet. It’s heartbreaking to watch what rises to the forefront of our minds as the rest of us goes. His constant narrative of loss and theft is profound for me to see because it’s the same one that has subtly played as his own personal background music his entire life. He’s always had an echo of lack and an undertone of being suspicious of life. Any issues we have around money can only point to something deeper, something intrinsically woven into our thought patterns and habits. I want you to track every time you, panicked stricken, reach for your metaphorical wallet because you’re sure someone has swiped it. Our feelings about our finances are directly related to our experiences of security, if you didn’t get it when you were young it’s high time you learned how to give it to yourself.
Capricorn and Capricorn Rising
There is just nothing tepid about your current astrology. It’s not subtle, serene or docile but it could be dramatic, drastic and powerful to say the least (which doesn’t in any way have to boil down to being “bad”). In fact the astrology from December 25th to January 1st is so intense, it’s laughable and so much of it happens to and through you sign. Tis the season to be challenged and meet said challenges with great courage and heart. We have in front of us a stellar gateway to walk through and I am excited for you to experience it. There is, however, a catch; when we don’t do our inner work it generally shows up as an outer event that we are forced to deal with. Therefore, your holiday season mantras could include something like: “Everything happens for a perfect and divine reason. Life is showing up like this because I need it to. I am willing to work through this moment with as much grace as I possibly can. I accept everything as it is in this moment as perfect, necessary and divinely ordered for my spiritual growth and well-being.” Another good set of values to work with would include being willing to completely relinquish any ideas of who you think you are. Most of us, like 99.9% of us, suffer spiritual amnesia. We often forget whom we truly are and what we are here to do. We are spiritual beings having a very brief moment in the material realm-remember that and it will be a very good year indeed.
Aquarius and Aquarius Rising
It’s that time of year when all of the Top Ten lists come out and all of the “best” and the “worst” moments of 2013 fill our facebook feeds, newsreels, talk shows and comedy skits. In a rare collective moment of reflection we get to see whom values what and why. You are in a similar moment of reflection and there is a potential for you to notice what you have valued and why you have valued it. You are at the end of your solar year and it’s a seasonal time for you to come apart at the seams a little, not all of life will be presenting itself within the realm of “reality”, but it’s real nonetheless. My only concern for you is that you may be a little less likely to notice what’s going on or to give it the validation that it deserves because of the ephemeral quality of it. You may also feel a little less solid than normal and there are times when your rationale won’t be as useful as your intuition. We used to give much more conscious awareness to our use of myths and the ways in which they can help to usher us from one side of the bridge to the other. I encourage you to sniff out an archetype or two that you feel resonates and reflects this stage of your journey (one will most likely present itself). Remember that we don’t have to be tied to any one image, archetype or deity for long, we can simply walk a little bit of the path with them, say thank you and keep it moving. Good friends are willing to part ways when needed.
Pisces and Pisces Rising
Apparently, I like to use myself as an example in my work, like a lot. So I’m just going to tell it like it is, cause you are a big part of my community and your weekly reading is all about how you interact with the people in your circle. Full disclosure: One of the most difficult things for me to feel is comfortable with the notion that I have something valuable to contribute to the world. I know that I do, but there is a big part of me that has struggled with it. I can be ridiculously insecure and neurotic. For every horoscope I have ever sent out, I have doubled over in painful self-doubt and self-criticism in response. However, as difficult as this part of my personality has been to live with, I also have an equally stubborn force that lives through me that demands to talk to you, so I do. I am a servant to astrology, and I am a servant to the words that want to reach you every week. It often makes little sense to me; if it can be so painful, why I would spend days writing to folks (for free) about something that the majority of the world writes of as completely idiotic, superstitious, poppycock? But every week I sit down and do my duty — it’s that or go a little loopy for ignoring the impulse to write to you. However, lately I am finding that through committing to the process and dealing with the feelings that arise, I have done the very thing that I desire most: I have made a connection with other human beings despite myself, and through this I can’t but know that I have something valuable to contribute to the world. Venus is in your 11th house of groups, folks, peeps, homies and communities for like, a really long time. Venus, if you haven’t guessed is about relationships, values, culture and speaks greatly to our self-esteem. In Capricorn (the sign it will be in for a loooong ass time) Venus wants to know about your personal rules of engagement, specifically in terms of how you are in relationship to your world. What ways are you able to show up consistently (whether you feel like it or not) for your family of friends? How could you build a better structure to get to them and what ways are you holding yourself back for fear of rejection? Are you letting your doubts and fears run your output to the world and if so, stop it! It’s too late in the game to play it small and it’s too early to claim that you’re tired. We cannot afford the luxury of self-doubt.
