We’re Devouring Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Palette [In Our Makeup Bag]

What It Is:

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette*

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

Too Faced has been killing it. Over the past year, they’ve released countless must-have products and maintained their cruelty-free integrity!

Their Chocolate Bar palette for Spring 2014 is filled with 16 eyeshadows in matte and shimmer finishes that have cocoa powder mixed in! Apparently cocoa powder “provides antioxidant benefits and aids to reduce inflammation in skin.” Who knew?! I’m a huge fan of neutral shadows and couldn’t wait to get my paws on this one.

How To Use It:

As always, Too Faced includes a card with a few suggestions for how to maximize this palette. I rarely follow these, but wanted to share a couple looks I did using the palette.

CC Rating: A+

When I opened the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette I was immediately met by the chocolate-esque scent and it may have been love at first scent. The gorgeous selection of browns (with a couple purples thrown in for good measure!) in a variety of finishes stole my heart! The shades are generally of unbelievable quality and blend out beautifully. Strawberry Bon Bon is a bit useless for me and Cherry Cordial is rather powdery, but 14/16 are perfection!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar palette trumps any incarnation of Urban Decay’s Naked palettes. I’ve found that all of the shadows in Chocolate Bar work on my skintone; none are too warm or cool. It’s also not lacking any shadow for a look I want to do. For example, most neutral palettes have 2-3 mattes, and when I go to use those palettes, I need to supplement other shadows in to complete my look. But, Chocolate Bar has 4 mattes and they exactly what I need to do my signature matte eye look. Ditto in the shimmer department.

I did notice some shade overlap between this palette and other recent Too Faced offerings like “Favorite Things”. They’ve renamed the shadows, which makes it a bit difficult to determine if you are getting any repeats, but some diligent swatching should help.

This is definitely my first must-have of 2014. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette will be any neutral (or chocolate) lover’s dream! It retails for $49 USD on the Too Faced website.

I love my little hometown and all that goes with living in the Great White North - snow, skiing, hot chocolate, bulky knit sweaters. I'm passionate about a lot of things, but you'll most often find me writing about books, makeup and fashion. As I like to put it, I've got beauty AND brains.
