Once upon a time, I loved rainy days. The weather was – and still is! – the perfect backdrop for a good writing sesh, complete with warm tea, good music and a cozy blanket. But then I grew up and became a commuter. I wouldn’t wish the struggle of trying to squeeze on a packed rush hour train with wet and angry New Yorkers on my worst enemy. A friend let me in on an easy trick, though – if you dress better, especially on occasions when the weather may make your mood worse, you’ll feel better too. And she’s right. Even when I have to splash around sloppy puddles to get to my station or when I’m being hit in the head by someone’s still-damp golf umbrella, I get break out my bright white Tretorns and my hair’s protected by favorite hooded anorak. I’m actually kind of grateful that it’s supposed to rain up here next week – any excuse to look cute (and to shop) is a good one in my book.
