7 Ways To Wear A White Dress Shirt (Hint: You Don't Always Need to Go Dressy!)

Much like its friend the black blazer, the white button down shirt is a game changing wardrobe staple.
I know that when you think white button-down, the first thing that comes to mind is like, Britney Spears sashaying around with her flat little tummy exposed and furry hair ties in her pigtails. And sure, you can make like Queen B (sorry Queen Bey fans, #TEAMBRITNEY) and rock the schoolgirl look, but the truth is you can do a whole bunch of other things with a white button down.
Whether you opt for an easy cotton number, a fancier silk one or a collarless shirt (from Fred Segal) you should give some of these styling suggestions a spin next time you fear you have nothing to wear.
Keep it casual: When it finally warms up, tuck your white shirt into some distressed denim jeans. Add some tan leather sandals and big sunglasses and you look perfect, but like you didn’t even try.
Leave it open: Rock a white shirt over a plain tank and some black skinny jeans for a breezy look – it can total double as a jacket.
Let your shoes do the talking: Do you have a really fabulous over-the-top pair of shoes you’ve been wanting to showcase? Pair ’em with a white shirt and black pants. So easy.
Layer it up: Rock it under a hoodless sweatshirt – either a plain gray one or a more fashion-y sweatshirt – for a slightly hipster-geek-cool look.
Make it beachy: A white shirt makes a great coverup, especially if its a slightly oversized cotton one. Just wear that bad boy over your suit. Leave it open one the beach, button it up when you grab lunch.
Jazz it up: Make it more interesting by buttoning up all the way, then sliding a statement necklace under the color.
Wear it at night: Tucked into a cute little black miniskirt. Oh you fancy, huh?
