100 Arrested, 44 Injured In Spring Break Hell-topia Riot

Deltopia, an annual spring break party in Southern California, broke into a riot sending 44 people to the hospital and seeing 100 arrested. Things began to pop off real quick around 9:30 PM on Saturday after a University of California-Santa Barbara police officer was hit in the face with a backpack filled with large bottles of liquor.
The crowd of 15,000 people—15,000 turnt ass college students—began throwing ROCKS, BRICKS and BOTTLES at police officers. Because, you know, that’s what you do. Law enforcement had to use teargas and foam projectiles to breakup the angry students. They even brought out a SWAT team. These kids must have been on bath salts.
HuffPo reports, “Earlier in the day, authorities also responded to reports of a stabbing and found several individuals carrying weapons, she said. Aside from those who were treated after the brawl broke out, nearly every person who was hospitalized on Saturday had consumed excess alcohol.” On top of this about 6 police officers were injured in the crossfire.
“It really was ridiculous,” Sheriff spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said. “Deltopia attracts out-of-towners who come in and are not invested in our community and there are some who come to cause trouble.” Why on earth would anyone want to gather 15,000 drunk coeds in one place. This sounds terrifying.
Isla Vista, the beachside community where Deltopia is held, borders the university and has a reputation for partying. The area homes about 23,000 residents and 60 percent of those residents are students. This sounds like HELL. Or you know, a super fun but kinda scary place where anything can happen and you’re constantly brimming on the edge of excitement and nervous anxiety.
UC-Santa Barbara spokesman George Foulsham said, “The actions of some of the participants involved in last night’s incidents were outrageous and extremely dangerous,” he said. “Any of our students found to have violated the law or university policies are subject to university sanctions.”
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
