Janelle Kroll Covers Pharrell’s “Happy” and I Like It Better Than The Original

Do you feel like a room without a roof? That line bugs me like none other because, seriously, what does that even mean? I’m pretty sure I’m happier in rooms that have roofs, but then again, I’m not Pharrell. Perhaps he spends most of his time in Antigua where roofs are a mere suggestion, and mojitos taste so much better when you’re sippin’ al fresco. Perhaps it’s a metaphor and I’m missing the real meaning. Perhaps I’m over thinking it.

Since I’m absolutely neurotic, it’s because of this one line along with the jangly, overflowing saccharine melody of the song that I really can’t get into it. “Happy” is the musical equivalent of putting whipped cream on your already syrupy pancakes — only some people can go all in on that level of sweetness. Or so I thought, until I heard Janelle Kroll cover it in a way that has me genuinely…wait for it…happy.

Janelle’s version is pleasantly, thankfully low-key and legitimately hip. She’s the cool kid in class who looked at over-enthusiastic Pharrell and said, “Slow your roll and let me take this one.”

Big hat tip to the guys over at Mostly Junk Food for this find.

The best sext she ever sent read, "I'm trying to have a romantic moment and you keep talking about your boner." She hopes to write even better things here.
