10 Graphic Novels For People Who Aren't Into Superheroes

I will probably never go to Comic-Con. I’m not into the Avengers or Superman, and I don’t watch anime. So if someone has told me a few years ago that I’d be writing my dissertation on graphic memoirs and obsessively filling my bookshelves with books with more pictures than words, I wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are.
It turns out graphic novels aren’t what I thought they were. They’re not exclusively about superheroes, you don’t have to read everything from right to left. More and more graphic novels are taking on ‘big’ topics, like the Holocaust, loss, mental illness, and global issues, in a new and interesting form that unites the visual with the verbal in a way that is engaging and truly beautiful. So, it’s definitely time to move past our preconceived notions of what graphic novels and comic books are, and who it is that reads them, because, believe me, if you’re not on the graphic novel bandwagon you’re missing out.
If, like me, you’re not really a fan of superhero stories, try out these awesome graphic novels as a starting point to your new literary addiction:
