A good silk blouse is a straight up lifesaver. They aren’t quite as valuable in college – although trust, there are definitely ways to rock a button-down at a dive bar – but in the real world, they’re positively indispensable.
They obviously come in handy when you’re running out to a job interview but there are so many other ways to wear this staple. The trick is to get a slightly blousey silk number instead of a stiff button-down – the tunic-y vibe makes it so much more versatile. I’ve rocked my silk shirt on dates, to class, for a night out, and yes, for job interviews. Here’s how to make it work:
For dinner: Add black skinny jeans to your silk shirt and accessorize with sky-high pumps, pretty earrings and a small purse for a classy yet cute look that’s perfect for date night at a trendy restaurant.
For a night out: Wear your shirt loose over a bandage skirt – it’s way, way more creative than styling a tight skirt with a tight tank top tucked into it. The looseness of the shirt contrasts nicely with the silhouette of the tight skirt, making this a very balanced look. Add some cage sandals and a few bracelets.
For class: If it’s nice out you can make this look super casual by pairing the shirt with some distressed denim shorts, flat sandals and a tote bag. You’ll look like an off-duty celeb.
For a job interview: Style this tucked in to some not-skinny pants, add a low-heeled pump, a blazer and slick your hair into a bun. Totes profesh.
For brunch: Add some slouchy boyfriend jeans, do the frat tuck (slide just one corner of the shirt into the jeans) and add some ankle boots for a cool, casual daytime look.
