In Memoriam: A Look At The Best Fashion From “The Carrie Diaries”

In case you’ve been living under a rock, I’ve got some sad(ish) news for you: The CW chose to cancel The Carrie Diaries.

It may not have been the most surprising news – the show definitely had some fans, but let’s not kid ourselves here. It never had even a fraction of the following that its predecessor had. My opinion is that the timing just wasn’t right. Had the show aired when my generation, a group made up of girls who desperately wanted to watch and understand Sex and the City (and the many, many AOL Instant Messenger away messages its iconic quotes spawned), was watching teen-centric TV, the show may have fared better. Because it’s a show geared toward high school students (who likely have little connection to the original Carrie Bradshaw), it just missed the chance to attract a slew of viewers who would have been eager to connect with the more adult show’s main character on a more relatable level.

Regardless of why the show didn’t pan out for more than two seasons, though, there’s one thing I’m quite sure about: its demise means there’s one less place for teenagers to turn in search of fashion inspiration. Admittedly, I only watched a view episodes, but I did notice that AnnaSophia Robb did as good a job as anyone could have in stepping into Carrie’s shoes. Her quirky, eclectic, always colorful wardrobe was a huge part of the character, and costume designer Eric Daman (of Gossip Girl fame) did a great job with it.

So without further ado, let’s take a look back at the best fashion moments from this fallen show.
