'It's Always Sunny's' Charlie Day's Commencement Speech Will Make You Laugh And Cry

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Charlie Day gave a hilarious and inspiring commencement speech at his alma mater Merrimack College. Charlie talks about his struggle as an actor, being a horrible student, and choosing between becoming an investment banker (a job he was only offered by conning the interviewer) or moving to New York City with no money or prospects to become an actor. The most important advice he offers, which I think is great advice is, “don’t do what makes you happy, do what makes you great.” This is an interesting point that not everyone talks about. The road to success isn’t about being filled with joy every step of the way. Otherwise we’d all be eating pizza three times a day and doing psychedelic drugs. The road to success is very much about being resilient when faced with failure. It’s about doing what makes you uncomfortable, what breaks your heart, what fills you with angst, in the hopes that it will amount to something bigger.
