Remember when we were still young enough to be asked about what we wanted to be when we grew up? Some of our dreams were lofty – like being a firefighting cowgirl or a supermodel-slash-scientist – while others were totally realistic. Essentially, college is where you make those lifelong dreams come true. For freshmen, choosing a major is probably one of the toughest decisions. Choosing a major is probably one of the toughest decisions that an incoming student can make. Your course of study sets the tone of your collegiate career and some pretty life altering decisions after that. I remember when I told my parents that I wanted to study journalism. I still had the same answer to my “what do you want to be?” inquiry years later…and I still do. While he respected my choice, he urged me to minor in something “practical” in case my Carrie Bradshaw dreams fell through. I understand what he meant, I guess…and so does H&R Block.
