We Tried Clarins’ Golden Glow Booster Self Tanner [In Our Makeup Bag]

What It Is:

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster*

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

With the hot weather finally reaching the furthest corners of Northern Canada, I’ve got tanning on my mind. However, I’m also quite fearful of the consequences of such practices (you know, skin cancer) and always looking for a great self-tanning product!

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster is a new, innovative product from one of my favourite brands. They’re calling it a ‘skin booster’; you mix 2-3 drops with your regular moisturizer ‘to gradually develop natural-looking, beautifully bronzed skin.’ It’s apparently 99.8% natural and has been getting loads of great reviews, so I was excited to try it out!

How To Use It:

I decided to go full-boar and mix 3 drops in my morning moisturizer. After about 5 days of this, I moved down to 2 drops to maintain my glow. There’s a few warnings that come with this product: do not use directly on your skin without mixing it in a moisturizer and do not just mix in your moisturizer jar or tube!

CC Rating: B+

First off, what do I like about this product? The biggest pro IMO is that it lets you customize the amount of product – this makes it friendly for all skin tones! When I wanted more colour, I simply used 3 drops and then dialed it back to 2 for maintenance. The price is also excellent ($30 USD/CAD)! Even though the tube is tiny, you barely use any and there’s no waste with the design of the dropper. Even if I were to purchase a self-tanner, I would still be using a regular moisturizer just like I do with Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster.

I guess my biggest issue is what to expect from this product. I anticipated it to be a full-blown self-tanner and it’s not really that. It definitely gave my skin colour, but not as much as my regular self-tanners, even the gradual ones. Descriptions of the¬†Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster keep referring to a ‘healthy-looking glow’, so I’m not sure if this is even intended to give me a tan! The colour was extremely natural and perfect for my fair skin, but I imagine someone with more medium-toned skin may need to experiment with the number of drops to be satisfied.

If you’re looking for an easy way to give yourself a healthy glow and a bit of colour, then Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster is a great option!

I love my little hometown and all that goes with living in the Great White North - snow, skiing, hot chocolate, bulky knit sweaters. I'm passionate about a lot of things, but you'll most often find me writing about books, makeup and fashion. As I like to put it, I've got beauty AND brains.
