Beyoncé has swept the MTV Video Music Awards with 8 nominations but only time will tell how many she will actually win. MTV announced the noms today, you can read them all at Billboard, but the only category we really care about here is Video Of The Year. Place your votes, CC readers, this is going to be a doozy.
“Fancy”

I only like this video because I like Clueless. Paying homage to an iconic film is merely a cheap ploy to get you to like the video. Clever marketing? Yes. But cheap nonetheless. I am not a fan of Iggy Azalea because she tweets and deletes offensive stuff about people of color, women,gay men, lesbians—literally everyone. However, we’re judging the video here, which is totally cute but if we’re judging the best video of the year, considering how recently this came out, I am going to say “no” on this one.
“Drunk In Love”

This is by far one of the most boring videos on the epic Beyoncé album. It looks the most low budget, doesn’t have any choreography and doesn’t tell a story. The song is much better than the video.
“Happy”
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM&w=590]
I think this video should win, not because I like it, I don’t. I am pretty sure literally no one likes this video anymore but it was everywhere for so long. It was infectious, it is infectious and even today, as much as I can’t stand it, when it comes on I feel happy and I sing along and I hate myself for it.
“Chandelier”
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vjPBrBU-TM&w=590]
This is the video that should win but probably won’t. The video actually makes the song sound better. It is so beautifully done and magnetically captivating. Plus, everyone loves well done choreography. A+ all the way.
“Wrecking Ball”
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My2FRPA3Gf8&w=590]
“Wrecking Ball” is iconic because Miley Cyrus is naked on a wrecking ball. I have no problem with nudity or Miley Cyrus but this is the most literal interpretation of a song possible. The imagery of Miley on that wrecking ball, licking a sledgehammer detracts from what is actually a good song. Minute after minute of the same thing, it becomes monotonous and flat.
