Tomorrow is the first day of August and as we all know the 8th month of the year is dedicated to our favorite lionesses, those Leos. Debra Silverman is back with a CollegeCandy exclusive. In the effervescent and bold style we’ve come to love and adore, Debra shows us the best and worst traits of Leos. I mean, even if you didn’t know August was the month of Leos, you probably would’ve heard soon since Leos love going on and on about their birthday. Don’t wish a Leo a happy birthday and you’re not a good friend!
I know Lionesses all too well. My childhood best friend was a Leo and a handful. She was totally vain, totally fabulous and a total sweetheart at her core. My favorite thing about Leos is that they’re so good at being bad. There’s always an edge, a wit and an intelligence about Leo that grabs your attention and makes your heart pitter-patter in the very best way. They’re not afraid (of anything?) to make bold decisions which makes them so much fun.
In honor of August this video is made especially for you, Leos.

Debra’s thoughts to our readers:
“Leo…better known as how to laugh at your ego.
There is a part in all of us that needs attention. We look in the mirror, we dress up in our best clothes and we go about seeking approval. This is Leo. What if you didn’t know that you are special? What if you didn’t care what you looked like? … Or how to find love? Your life would be beige, without flair and flat lined.
Leo brings out the fun factor. Leo wants to increase the volume, to be fully alive. The ego gets a bad rap…but without the hungry culprit we would be boring, naked and alone. No one ever stands up for the ego… But Leo does.
They say, “they” being the spiritual people, that your ego is the distracting nuisance preventing us from enlightenment. Everyone bumps into the hammer hitting, self-righteous voice when beginning something new.
For example, everything from learning how to use a new computer program, to going on a first date, filling out an application for a new job or school, or at the end of a relationship. Your ego will step in with its megaphone on high blast: “You should have, you ought to, you are too ______or you are not enough.” Or better yet, “they should have, they ought to, they are too____ or they are not enough.”
That’s the ego, and if you are human, it’s not going anywhere. My suggestion, especially if you are a Leo, is to laugh at it. This may sound mean, but humor is a sure way to put the ego in its place.
I make fun of my character. When someone says, “Oh, Deb you are so loud, you talk too much, or you’re so “cute”… (I get that a lot, and my ego hates that word—cute??!), my only medicine is to turn on my observer. When my observer kicks in and I watch myself react, I realize… that I am kind of cute.
Why are they telling me that I am “cute”? —That’s a word for a puppy or a small child, not for a woman. That is the ego all right. After learning astrology, understanding psychology and with years of practice, now my observer steps in and says: “Oh Deb, it’s ok… I am kind of cute, and that’s ok.”
We all have to practice self -talk to put the ego in his place. This is the value of astrology — I get to give you the insight to understand the voices based on your chart. It is predictable and obvious to me who is teasing you. We can change that by telling your ego to sit down.
Ego, take a number buddy, move over… you are not in charge. Wow, this is the best part about being a Leo. You can command your world, be in charge and find your true power from your soul, not your ego.”
