In the music video of the title track to Lana Del Rey’s second album,”Ultraviolence,” Lana plays a groom-less bride wandering in the woods. Much like most of Lana’s videos she sort of just plays wistfully to the camera. Much like most of Lana’s videos it is shot through an Instagram filter and not much really happens. I loved Born To Die but I didn’t find myself very engaged with Ultraviolence as an album. It was intentionally stripped and minimalistic but I feel like that exposed some of her weaknesses. The topics of her song have always been one note: being the other woman, wanting to love someone wholly, being ill-fated, doing drugs, riding, etc., etc., but I found this album lacking a certain spark. Music is subjective and Ultraviolence had much better reviews than it’s predecessor but I want to know, did you guys dig her second album?
