Comedian and fashion guru Joan Rivers remains comatose but still stable according to USA Today.
Rivers, 81, was rushed to the hospital after an outpatient vocal chord surgery when she went into cardiac arrest on the operating table. Once at the hospital they placed her in a medically induced coma where she remains.
Daughter and co-star, Melissa Rivers, released the following statement to E! regarding her mother:
“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”
Joan Rivers got her start by doing standup on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show where she became the permanent guest host for a number of years. She was then the first woman to have her own late night talk show. She’s been known for her insulting style of comedy and for years of chatting up stars on the red carpet with her daughter Melissa. Rivers has pioneered for women in comedy and we are all hoping she has a speedy recovery.
