Give Your Hair Amazing Volume, No Heat Styling Required

There’s one super easy way to completely fry your hair and it has everything to do with blow dryers/hot rollers/curling irons/flat irons. Heat styling can cause so damage and while avoiding it all costs might not be option, cutting down on your use of hot tools is a great compromise, not to mention an awesome way to keep your strands looking fresh, sleek and healthy.
The best part? You honestly don’t need to do a whole lot to give your hair a little lift here and there. Granted, I’ve always had straight hair and can’t really give you curly-haired girls tips that I’ve gleaned from personal experience if smoother, flatter strands are what you’re after. But I have picked up some sneaky ways to infuse body and movement into my super long, straight locks and I’m happy to share them with you right here.
Nix conditioner: If you’re after really intense volume, skipping out on conditioner is a great way to do it. I’m not saying you should never use conditioner again or anything but forgoing it for an occasion when you want big hair totally works. Otherwise, simply condition the bottom inch or so of hair.
Towel dry: Take your towel, flip your head upside down and move your towel wrapped hair between your hands vigorously. This roughs up your cuticle a bit, leaving your hair volumized.
Play with your hair: Twirl your strands around your fingers while it air dries. This gives is some subtle texture and really natural-looking waves, ergo volume.
Flip your head upside down: While brushing your hair before heading out. If you start to flatten out midday, just flip that head and shake it out. It creates movement instantly. If you must blow dry, utilize this method for that too. Flipping your head upside down and aiming a blow dryer at your hair is way less harmful than brushing through every strand anyway.
Try velcro rollers: Seriously, they’re super retro but they work!
Dry shampoo is not just for second day hair: Use it on clean hair too, then run your fingers through it for texture.
Be a bunhead: This has got to be my favorite trick. I simply twist my hair into a ballerina bun before I go out, leave it in while getting dressed and doing my makeup and let it down right before I walk into my destination. It gives my big, sexy hair instantly and it is the easiest thing in the entirely world.
