Throwback Thursday: Middle School Feelings [Listen To This]

TheeBlog-YourSceneSucks

The best way to spend any Thursday is obviously by celebrating with a solid #TBT. While that usually means using Instagram to filter your skinny high school self into Chrissy Teigen, it can also involve deep reflection on your darker days. I’m talking about that terrifying time that involved glasses, braces, bad hair years, and all of the feels — middle school. I know, it’s a devastatingly dark place to return to on a Thursday morning, but this Spotify playlist makes it a necessity.

Whether you’re currently recovering from a break-up with a not-boyfriend from hell, or you just want to feel #blessed because you turned out relatively well-adjusted after years of listening to Dashboard Confessional, this playlist is what you need to get you through the rest of the week. You don’t even think about Hot Topic studded belts or Manic Panic hair dye these days, but no one can get you to give up your love of Converse, because recovery is a slow process. Throwback Thursday is really just Friday Eve, so start your pregame with songs that instantly remind you of listening to Fall Out Boy on the way to Warped Tour (because they were so hardcore). Times have changed, but the music remains beautifully melodramatic, perfect in its imperfections (of which there are many).

Back in the early 2000s, being an emo kid was everything. It involved side bangs, perfecting the art of the Myspace mirror selfie (we were taking selfies long before the rest of America joined in), and shopping at Hot Topic and Urban Outfitters while pretending everything you owned was unique like a butterfly from a dirty old thrift store (as if your overprotective parents would ever let you actually shop at one). If you’re nostalgic for the days of skate park shows and crushing on guys who wore more eyeliner than you (and had tighter pants), this is the playlist you need. Whether you were a scene queen or mall poser, this one’s for you.

Full disclosure: It’s 10 years later and I’m still a sucker for anything acoustic.
