A pickup coaching site called Simple Pickup had both a woman and a man wear a fat suit to greet their Tinder dates. The hosts say that in a study a woman’s worst fear when going on a date is that the guy would be a serial killer, a man’s worst fear when going on a date is that the girl would be fat.
I think those “fears” are pretty telling of the world we live in. Women are afraid men will murder them. Men are “afraid” women won’t be perfect ornaments to decorate their life with.
What happens next in the video says a whole lot about how bigger women are treated or at least about how big jerks men can be. When the men saw Sarah in her fat suit they immediately responded with repulsion.
One said he was going to the bathroom and never came back. Another reacted with hostility, “It’s very upsetting! I wasted gas and my time to come over here, and I can’t do this.” While another guy made up that he was married. Most of the men saw Sarah and made an excuse to leave. Only one stayed long enough for her to reveal she was in prosthetics.
When the women saw Willy they didn’t make up an excuse and act as if their prince had turned into a frog. They stayed the date. What’s worse is that Willy wasn’t very nice to them, he made rude comments and was a bad date (on purpose) but the women stayed. Some wanted another date with him. He even got a kiss.
Although Willy wasn’t what the women had expected they stuck around long enough to see what his personality was actually like. The men simply could not get passed Sarah’s appearance. They were only interested in discussing her weight and giving her the third degree about her appearance so they never got to know who Sarah was beyond her bodily features.
Look, I get that these guys may have been miffed that they saw one person and got another but that doesn’t give them the right to be cruel. As soon as they saw Sarah all they could do is fixate on her appearance. “You looked much skinnier in your profile,” one of the guys said, another asked if she was pregnant. There are less degrading ways these men could have communicated that they were no longer interested or they could have been human beings and saw the date through. Instead they felt that because the woman turned out to be fat that gave them permission to humiliate her.
