Malala Yousafzai Wins The Nobel Peace Prize

Two years ago, when Malala Yousafzai was just fifteen years old, she was shot in the head by the Taliban. Her efforts to promote education for young Pakistani women in her native Swat Valley where young girls had been banned from education made her a target for the extremist group.

Fortunately she survived and since then has used her public attention and support to change the lives of women all over the world. After the U.N. launched a worldwide campaign called “I am Malala,” which demands all children be in school by 2015, Malala spoke at the U.N. about the importance of childhood education.

“I’m proud that I’m the first Pakistani and the first young woman or the first young person getting this award,” she said in Birmingham, England today. At 17 years old Malala is the young Nobel Peace Prize winner and very much deserving.

We cannot imagine being so young, compassionate and devoted to a cause that you’re willing to risk your life for it. If you’re looking for a role model, you might want to start here.
