Kanye West set to headline Saturday night at England’s well known Glastonbury Festival this summer, but thousands of concertgoers are totally against the idea of him performing. Over 80,000 have signed a petition asking organizers to cancel ‘Ye’s performance.
“Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world,” wrote petition-starter Neil Lonsdale. “This egotistical, maniacal, disgrace was a clear oversight. There is still time to correct this.” Neil started the petition as a joke, but it quickly gained attention from like-minded individuals who would rather stand for five hours to see someone who doesn’t crash other artists’ wins at award shows.
Let’s not forget how Kanye’s performance at Bonnaroo Music Festival went over in 2014. In between songs and boos from the crowd, Mr. West went on crazy rants on everything from Bruno Mars to William Shakespeare. Here’s just one of his crazy rants.
“”You know, I had a meeting with Oprah Winfrey. She wanted to give me some advice. What she told me was that the corporations are scared of me. I’m like, ‘Little ol’ me?! Why you scared of me?! Because I tell the kids the truth?! Why y’all scared of me?!’ Why they so scared of me? … Little ol’ me?’ Because I want peoples’ minds to finally be free. What’s the new cool? What’s the new cool? Can you tell me what’s the new cool? Because I want to hide behind that. I need some new barricade to hide behind. I need a new cool. What’s the new sh-t out? What’s the new sh-t out with the most commercials at the Super Bowl? Let’s just stop the music and play a Bruno Mars song right now, how about that? They told me I would never play at the Super Bowl. They told me I could never play at the Super Bowl. Not until I’m super old. Not until I’m super old … They told me I would never play at the Super Bowl. They told me I would never play at the Super Bowl, at least not until I’m super old. So I think it’s time—hold up, f—k that toast.”
Umm…yeah, f–that toast for sure. Don’t the lovely people of Glastonbury want to get some insights from the (self-proclaimed) genius mind of Kanye?
We doubt the petition will change the lineup, but you’ve got to love the sense of community that comes from a common enemy.
