I love nothing more than an original movie. Not a sequel or adaptation, but a unique idea thrown up on the screen.
Well, at least that’s what I thought. Then I heard about this.
It was released only sixteen years ago, but apparently Hollywood is looking to remake the teen rom-com She’s All That. The new version is to be directed by Kenny Leon and produced by Spike Lee’s wife, Tonya Lewis Lee. In case you were deprived of a childhood, the movie followed Freddie Prinze Jr. as a high school jock who makes a bet with Paul Walker’s character that he can turn the clumsy art nerd (played by Rachael Leigh Cook) into the prom queen. The movie Not Another Teen Movie basically ripped off all the hilarious parts of She’s All That, if you didn’t already realize that.
Can anything top the original? Absolutely not, but I’m going to love seeing them try. The ’99 film was based on the musical My Fair Lady which was based on the play Pygmalion, further proving that no idea is 100% original anymore.
Doesn’t look like we can expect a Freddie Prinze cameo either. He responded to a comment on Twitter and it definitely doesn’t look like he’s thrilled about the project.
@lanniesmiles tough for writers with original scripts
