Sleeping is one of my favorite things to do. Even if I’m having a terrible day, I know my bed is waiting for me to make it all better. And sometimes, I sleep in the nude. Some people think that’s weird, but about ten percent of people do it! There are a billion reasons (both scientific and not) why catching some z’s naked is great, with or without a friend. As long as your roommate isn’t around, give sleeping in the buff a try…you might just love it.
1. It lets your body breathe.
Sleeping in the buff can actually help your skin. Think about it – all day long your armpits and feet are covered by multiple layers. Airing out at night can lower the risk of skin diseases, like athlete’s foot, that result from wet, restricted skin. It can also decrease acne on your back and other body parts.
2. You save some money.
No pajamas means less laundry. Sleeping naked means you can keep the AC a few degrees higher in the summer. And not sweating while you sleep means you can even take less showers, saving you money on water and hair products!
3. You get a solid night’s rest.
According to The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, your body temperature naturally declines as a part of your sleep cycle. Wearing pajamas can actually mess up this natural occurrence and interrupt your sleep. Besides, those pesky draw strings and too big free t-shirts get you all tangled up in the middle of the night.
4. It helps you regulate your cortisol.
When you sleep naked, it helps keep your body temperature at the optimal ranges so your body can better create cortisol. If you’re too hot when you sleep, your cortisol levels tend to stay high, even after you wake up. This can lead to increased anxiety, cravings for bad food, and weight gain.
5. You feel sexier.
Waking up sans PJ’s just automatically makes you feel sexy. It’s kind of like a little secret you carry with yourself all day long that just puts you in a great frame of mind.
6. You wake up ready to go.
Once you wake up in the morning, you’re more inclined to get dressed for the day ahead rather than slobbing around in your sweatpants. No more runs to the bagel shop in last night’s PJ’s.
7. It improves circulation.
Who can sleep with an elastic waistband or socks cutting off the blood flow? When there’s nothing wrapped around you except the sheets, your body will be free to easily get around the body.
8. It’s good for your lady parts.
It’s gross, but you’re more likely to deal with problems such as yeast infections in you’re wearing clothes all night. In the buff, you’ll be reducing yeast production, as it thrives in moist environments, and your vagina will most definitely thank you for it.
9. It’ll increase oxytocin.
If you and your guy both sleep in the nude, you can be reaping the benefits of this feel-good hormone. Skin to skin touching is all that is required. The hormone counteracts stress and depression by combating the harmful effects of cortisol and reduces blood pressure.
10. It leads to more sexy time.
Are you even surprised? Waking up next to your guy in the buff is definitely going to encourage some play time.
