Eddie Redmayne Enters The Wizarding World As Newt Scamander In ‘Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them’

We just came off one of ABC Family’s famous Harry Potter Weekends (#HarryPotterForever), and no matter how productive we were planning to be, it all gets thrown out the window when you hear that Harry Potter theme music. All of a sudden, it’s Sunday night and you’ve been on the couch for eight straight movies. It happens. Although the HP movies will never get old, we found ourselves wishing we had another story to look forward to seeing on the big screen…and now our dreams are coming true. Rumors have been swirling for months, but it’s now official – Academy Award-winning actor/super cutie Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Newt Scamander in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

For you muggles who forgot, Redmayne will play J.K. Rowling’s character Newt Scamander, the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. (Bet your required books this semester didn’t nip at you.) The new film will be a prequel to the events that happened to Mr. Potter and his friends.

President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Greg Silverman,  said, “Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, will direct this new installment. JK Rowling will act as producer and screenwriter.

We’ll be not-so-patiently waiting until November 2016 for the new film to arrive! Not only do we get more magic, but with an amazing actor like Eddie Redmayne!? Yup, we’ll be at the midnight premiere of this one, dressed in our finest robes.
